I find this surprising. As an enthusiast, I find it tolerable enough (enough that I put it on my main machine), but I always thought that casual and newer users would be completely lost. After all, you can't even get to the comfortable, traditional desktop on startup! If casual and newer users think that it's good, I guess MS did something right there.

I agree. I got 8 right after it launched, and my wife said she wished she waited on buying her Macbook pro because she likes 8 better than OSX. Her friend, on seeing my desktop with 8, told her husband (a nerd like myself) that she wanted him to install "that window with the squares" on her laptop. It really does seem like the only people who are hating on 8 are the same people who complained when Win95 came out with this "start button thingy".

If us crybaby "Enthusiasts" are a minority & the throngs of casual users, as you say, are having such a great Windows 8 experience, then why isn't windows 8 a Huge Hit & flying off the shelves? Seems it's YOU that is making the mistake. It would seem Logical to assume that if so many were loving Windows 8, that it would not be doing so Poorly. I'll let the Poor Windows 8 Sales speak for us Crybabies. You & your 3 friends can continue to love Windows 8 as much as you all like.

And let me add this... The majority of us "crybabies" were only angry at the fact that MS didn't give us a choice. I can't say for a fact that the Start-menu was better than the Start-screen and vice versa, because I can't speak for everyone. Why not just give us the option and let us decide on our own?

Rumor: Start Button and Boot to Desktop

If true, this would end 99% of the Hate for Windows 8.
Ability to Disable Metro would also be nice! UI stinks worse then old milk!

Game on. If true, Microsoft will finally do the most obvious and correct move. I love Windows 8, since the beginning - but still I find myself wishing the Start button was there. Kudos for a rumor.

I actually like the start button being gone. Instead of having to find the circle and click on it, I just throw my cursor down into the corner like a boss and click in one movement.
