New Windows 7 Ad has me “Waiting for a Spaceship”

Windows 7 Ad

Love em or hate em, Microsoft ads certainly have churros… I mean Character. As the October 22nd launch of Windows 7 approaches we expected to start seeing a new wave of advertisements, and the first of these have already begun appearing on YouTube. The theme of the new ads appears to revolve around the new UI features such as Aero Shake, Taskbar, and themes.

Maximum PC readers might know these features inside and out, but it’s actually a smart move to start getting mainstream consumers interested in the idea of upgrading to the latest and greatest. Focusing on the UI is also an area that Apple can’t easily counter, mainly because its new operating system is almost indistinguishable from its predecessor.

Can anybody tell me why this guy is waiting for his spaceship to fly?

avatarNew Kylie Commercial?

Looks like Max PC is getting props from Kylie again. How many of these are they going to make?

avatarKylie rules!

OMG is that a real W7 commercial?  That one kicks ass!

Microsoft should drop all 3 of these stinkers and promote the heck out of Kylie.

That's the first good commerical I've ever seen by Microsoft.

avatarYeah

Yep, that's a real one.

Kylie's been with Microsoft for a while now. There are a bunch of other Kylie commercials as well... if you're interested:

avatarI have to agree. These ads

I have to agree. These ads didn't tell me much about Windows 7. The only thing I came away from watching all three was that Windows 7 apparently can open multiple media windows, the shake effect you can do, and some really annoying, but very hot girl being a total b*tch by ruining the catch game those two guys were playing. Honestly, why should I upgrade, Microsoft? I already plan to upgrade, so don't think I'm being a stuborn jackass. However, these ads don't tell me why I should upgrade, just that the young generation is into it, why not me?

avatarThese ads are terrible.

These ads are terrible. Sure, they're better than the old ones, but that's like saying your new neighbors are better than the pedophile who just moved out....the bar's pretty damn low.

These new ads don't tell me anything about what Windows 7 is and why I should want it. They're not memorable in any way, not funny, not witty, not informative.....nothing. At least Apple's ads, while completely full of bullshit FUD about PC's,  make you laugh.

Don't flame me for being an Apple fanboy or MS hater. I've already ordered my copy of Windows 7, and I can't wait to upgrade to it. I haven't been this excited to install an OS in a long time. But that doesn't change the fact that these ads are crap.

avatarMuch better than old ads

I'm really liking these new ads. Actually showing off their products instead of slinging the mud. Definitely different and more creative. Would probably be better if they had a short sentence on the feature they're advertising for each one so it' clear what they're showing off.

Apple is going to have a hard time making an anti-windows rip-off from these ads, though I can see them doing a country counterpart of the first one.

avatarI am impressed with these

I am impressed with these ads.  Speaking as someone with a deep allergic reaction to almost all ads, these don't piss me off.  That is high praise indeed.

avatarI think the white-friendly

I think the white-friendly rap ad is trying to convey that Windows 7 is the greatest thing to happen in my life and will change the futute--crap like that.

I don't understand what the shaking does.

I get the personalization. I think we've always wanted that in Windows. Full desktop themes were a move in the right direction, but Microsoft has made them increasingly harder to access since Windows 98. I suspect Microsoft execs saw personalization as a threat to brand recognition.

avatarWell,

Aero Shake allows you to de-clutter your open windows.  Let's say that you have 8 different windows open, of different sizes (which, let's admit, a lot of us do most of the time).  You have one window which you want to be the only one open.  You grab ahold of that window, give it a good shake, and all other windows disappear to the taskbar.  Then you change your mind.  One more grab 'n' shake will have all of your windows back the way they were.  In my opinion, it's a lot easier than minimizing one by one, or Win+D and restoring just the one window.

One thing I especially like about Windows 7 is how easy Themes are.  You should give it a try if you're caught up on how difficult MS has been making it for you to find them.

avatarSpaceship

Are we not all waiting for our spaceship to fly us away?  They did do a great job on these ads.

avatarN Sync returns!

First vid is a little bit hip hoppy annoying to me, but the ads focus more on normalcy, not silver-white backgrounds and half truths. They're different, not cookie cutter. :)

avatarThumbs up!

Thumbs up!

However, as much as I hate to say it, and as much as I hate Apple with every fiber of my being; the Buy A Mac ads were still better.

Apple is still garbage however.
