New Sony VAIO S Series Laptops Go on Sale

Over the weekend, Sony refreshed its VAIO S Series family with the addition of the full HD 15.5-inch Sony VAIO and the 13.3-inch VAIO SA. The two models, which have arrived well in time for the holidays, were announced at the end of August. Both models start at $999 and feature almost identical specs. Apart from their displays, the two models mostly share the same innards:

• Processor: Intel Core i5-2430M processor (2.40GHz / 3.00GHz with Turbo Boost)/ Core i7-2640M processor (2.80GHz / 3.50GHz with Turbo Boost)  
• OS: Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit/ Win 7 Professional 64-bit/  Win 7Ultimate 64-bit     (SA only)
• Storage: Up to 750GB HDD/ Up to 1TB SSD
• RAM: Up to 8GB         
• Ports: One USB 3.0 port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI out, SD card slot, Memory Stick Duo slot, VGA output, audio jack.
• Battery: Lithium polymer battery (4400mAh) with the option of a sheet battery with double the battery life

As mentioned above, the SE features a full HD display. On the other hand, the display on the smaller SA has a resolution of 1600x900. The basic model of the 15.5-inch SE comes with AMD Radeon HD 6470M (512MB) hybrid graphics. However, it can also be configured with a Radeon HD 6630 hybrid GPU with 1GB VRAM, which is the only graphics option available with the SA. The SE and the SA weigh 3.65 lbs and 4.4 lbs, respectively.
