New Release Movies to Cost More at Blockbuster Kiosks
Blockbuster is trying to make the most out of its 28-day head start against the competition on new movies. To drive that point home, the rental chain is launching a new ad campaign that promotes "Less Waiting. More Watching." Fair enough, but would you pay more for that convenience?
Blockbuster's about to find out. According to an AP report, Blockbuster Express kiosks will test the market with new DVDs priced at $2.99 and Blu-rays at $3.99 for the first night (each additional night will cost a buck).
"If I want to watch that specific movie, for a couple bucks more it's worth it," said Justin Hotard, vice president of NCR Entertainment. "It gives me the choice to make it the movie night I want to make it."
NCR began charging the new fee for Inception and Knight and Day at some 900 kiosks in San Francisco, Phoenix, Miami, and Atlanta. The test will continue next week with the release of A-Team, and then Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps a week after.

Funny. If I "can't wait" to see it, I will Redbox it. Otherwise, I will just wait and Netflix it. With leadership like this, it's absolutely no wonder that their business is tanking.

These simpletons never learn. If it's been 3 months since a movie was released in theaters and I still have not seen it, are they really dumb enough to think I can't wait another 28 days? These people making these desperate decisions need to face the cold hard facts that the days of jacked up DVD rental/purchase prices are gone. They either learn to deal with it or they disappear. They screw up now and bankruptcy can't save them twice.

I'd rather wait and get it on Redbox for a buck. If you watch a lot of movies that extra $2 adds up fast.

I'd wait the 28-30 days. If I didn't see it in the movie theater, 30 more days is not going to kill me.

Of course Justin 'tard, vice president of NCR Entertainment doesn't care about a couple bucks. I'm sure Justin gets paid a couple bucks more than the average Joe.
If I didn't care about the extra couple bucks I'd just buy the DVD anyway.
Less waiting but less watching too, for those average Joes, that I don't know, actually have to budget their expenses.

Just another reminder why Blockbuster is fading into obscurity.
