New Chrome Extension Blocks "Shallow" Sites, Feedback Wanted

Google's rolled out an experimental Chrome extension intended to let users block "shallow or low-quality content" sites from their search results, the search giant announced in a blog post. Once installed, the extension will also send blocked site information to Google for further study, which could end up being used to help rank search results. But it all depends on you installing it. Here's what you need to know.

Google says when you block a site with the extension, you'll never again see search results from the offending domain. However, there will be a link at the bottom that reads, "Some results were removed by the Personal Blocklist Chrome extension" followed by a "show" hyperlink. In addition, you can edit your personal blacklist of blocked sites by clicking on the extension's icon.

Despite this being an early test, the extension is already available in several languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish. You can download it here.
