Netflix Says Streaming Use is on the Rise
Netflix has been adding subscribers at a nice clip, seeing an amazing 1.7 million new subscribers in jus the first quarter. As such, it's no surprise that the company is reporting that they've met aggressive earning expectations with total revenue of $493 million. But a lot of those subscribers are signing on and staying largely because of the Netflix Instant Streaming service.
The Netflix streaming service suffered from scant selection at launch, but is now getting more expansive all the time. Those hoping for physical disks are a little displeased about the recent series of quid pro quos. These deals have Netflix delaying DVD releases in favor of increase streaming licenses. Netflix is claiming that in the last quarter 55% of users streamed at least one item from the catalog. That's up from 36% at this time last year.
The reason is clear. While it has always been available on PCs, all the major consoles now have a Netflix streaming option, and there are inexpensive options like the Roku box. There is also a plug-in for Windows Media Center that accomplishes the same function. Users of the Xbox 360 need to maintain a Xbox Gold account to take advantage of Netflix streaming, but the numbers show that isn't much of an impediment. If you use Netflix instant Streaming, let us know how you like it and what platform you use.

I still think in the end with penetration and desire for high definition content that neflix will lose out for many years until the internet back bone is improved. It's just a hard sticking point. Also my experience with delivery of bluray discs as of late by netflix is declining. I had to switch to blockbuster to get the discs. They are just not purchasing the movies, which right now is their core business. Bummer......

Netflix is doing well mainly because they have resonable prices with no limits on streaming, who else does that? Keep it up netflix and I'll buy your stock.

I stream through Xbox, Laptop and PC. the service is nice but could be better. Image quality could be better as could the movie selection.

On the 360. Don't even have cable anymore. I've actually even debated picking up another 360 just to use in another room for this purpose. Dell and amazon occassionally sell the thing for $150

They can have my Netflix when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.
I also know where you can find some herbs for natural enhancement.

Works great, and I'm running off of the wifi. if I want the movie in super crisp HD I'll go get the BD. but for the most part streaming is good enough.

Being military and spending the last 6 yrs overseas, I didn't bother wit Netflix b/c the wait would've been too long. Since they're streaming to everything I own now (PC, PS3, Wii), I thought "Great!! Where do I sign up?"....only to find that they won't stream to a foreign IP. Wah..wah...waaaah

I don't understand the hassle, bandwidth usage, scaling problems, etc. that people endure using streaming like this. I mean, if that's the way you like it then go for it. The platform I use is the simple, go to walmart/target, buy the DVD/Blue-Ray, pop it in my player and watch it over and over and over again if I so choose in any room in the house!

I like the convenience of the service. I use my PS/3 and it works pretty well. Two deficiencies : 1. "HD" content is 720p, blah. Kinda a waste on a 60" 1080p. 2. When running my bandwidth full out firing up Netflix will sometimes cause disconnects on other download/MMO streams.

It's really convenient on the Sony web-enabled Blu-ray player. I manage my queue from the notebook and watch on the HDTV. The upscaled video looks really good. The bad press generated by the Warner delay announcement a few months back didn't mention that this was done to get more streaming content. And so far, it's definitely getting better. The entire Whedonverse is there for streaming, all X-files seasons are in my queue, and they are getting more new indie flicks.
There's a reason it's called Netflix and not Mailflix.

Ive used it a few times on my 360 and bought my old man one and he uses it pretty regularly especially when hes got the grandkids over. Just wish you could browse the whole catalog available to stream besides just the suggestions. But as it is was a value added bonus to hooking up the old man with a 360 and having it stream also off my collection on my network. A few hiccups here and there but im not anal enough to give a damn about it when its newer technology.
