NEC Announces Versatile 30-inch MultiSync Display

An NEC representative acknowledged to us that Apple has made a lot of people happy with its 30-inch Cinema display, but said NEC's new 30-inch MultiSync PA301W-BK and PA301W-BK-SV monitors take performance to a whole new level. These are built for graphics professionals and enthusiasts who demand color accuracy, and to help get that, the latter includes NEC's SpectraView calibration software sensor puck.

NEC is pitching the new 30-inch panel as being ideal for color-critical applications, like photography, video editing, CAD/CAM, and things of that nature. It sports a 10-bit wide color gamut IPS panel with a 2560x1600 resolution and has the ability to load ICC profiles. it also includes an integrated KVM switch of sorts, which lets users utilize two computers on the same display at the same time.

Other notable features and specs include 98.2 percent coverage of Adobe RGB, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, dual DisplayPort and dual-DVI-D inputs, 4-way ergonomic stand, internal 14-bit programmable 3D lookup table (LUT), and picture-in/by-picture capabilities.

The PA301W-BK and PA301W-BK-SV are available now for $2,300 and $2,550, respectively.

To be clear, NEC's PA301W isn't meant to compete with Apple's Cinema display, as the two monitors target different different audiences. According to our contact at NEC, the company "is hitting a much, much higher target with the PA301W display. The NEC isn't a consumer display. It is designed for those graphics pros who want the best, especially for color critical work." Having played with a smaller version of this same panel, we know this to be true.
