NCSoft Trademarks City of Heroes 2

Are you ready for more City of Heroes? Because NCSoft might be granting your wish soon. Or maybe not. It’s kind of hard to tell with this trademarking business.
On one hand, NCSoft recently staked its claim to a second entry in the super-powered, spandex-clad MMO franchise. On the other, however, the publisher might not have any plans to develop the game right now. Maybe the game will be out in a matter of months. Maybe it’ll never be more than a twinkle in NCSoft’s eye. A full-blown announcement this is most certainly not.
But at least NCSoft’s interested. Supply-and-demand’s not a one-way street, though. So how about you? Would you be up for a City of Heroes sequel?

City of Heroes started off strong, but finished very weak.
My main character was a tanker and he was fun to play (at first). He could take a beating like a champ, but his damage output was garbage - which was just fine with me since it's an MMO and the whole point was to play with other people. I had no trouble getting groups and people who grouped with me once often came looking for me to group again. Then the changes started.
Against melee fighters I was an unstoppable force. I could hold aggro on 50+ enemies at once (not an exaggeration), I just couldn't damage them effectively (which was why I had teammates). Against energy-based attacks I didn't do as well, but I could hold my own with an effective healer. Against the special damage types (Rikti/Hydra/Malta Sappers) I needed a better team, but it just made things more interesting and fun.
Then there's psionics.
Psionic attacks bent me over a barrel and called me Susan. OK. I can't be immune to everything. I get it. I'm ok with it. It's logical.
Then there were psionic clockworks.
Huh? Lifeless automatons, but they're psionic?
Then (seemingly) everything had some form of psionic attack. Mobs that just the week before I could tank easily are suddenly bringing me to my knees faster than a <insert colourful euphamism here>.
That's when I said "enough's enough" and cancelled my account. Challenge makes the game fun. Constantly being bitch-slapped does not.
I'd LIKE to like CoH2, but they have a LOT to prove to me before I'll consider signing up.

They're only now trademarking this? After all these years? what was the wait for? Did somebody beat them to it and they had to pay an enormous amount to get the trademark?

When it managed to get out of its own way, the original was everything you'd want from an MMORPG. If they re-write COH2 free of all influence of Emmert, and carry with it the lessons they learned from the first, COH2 could be patently amazing.

Well, Champions Online sure didn't do it for me just because it wasn't serious enough, and I enjoyed City of Heroes while its appeal lasted. So, if they did a sequel, I'd check it out.

Two things must happen in CoH2:
1. It must start off just as awesome
2. They must not rape and pillage the players at any time after launch.
Unfortunately, I don't believe they can accomplish both of these goals.

Sure, but only if they fix all of the things that are broken in CoH 1.
