MySpace's Continuing Failure Catches Its Executives Off Guard

comment Commentsprint Printemail EmailDeliciousDiggStumbleUponRedditFacebookSlashdot

MySpace recently got a new CEO in Owen Van Natta, and according to reports, they may have a few more problems to deal with than they’d originally thought.

“The business is in a lot worse shape than Fox Interactive was positioning,” stated an anonymous source. According to a report, while MySpace’s old CEO Chris DeWolfe boasted loudly about their 120 million unique visitors, the real numbers are nowhere near. And, it’s being reported that when Google renews their $900 million advertising deal with MySpace, they’ll only guarantee $50 million per year, cutting MySpace’s ad revenue in half from $600 million to $300 million.

It’s expected that the new head honcho will make some huge layoffs, possibly cutting down their 1,500 employees in half to just 750 (but hey, it’s News Corp, how would that not be expected?).

I actually prefer myspace to facebook. Facebook is bland and boring and is pretty much the same shit.

avatarFB might be the same old

FB might be the same old boring interface, but I don't have to worry some crap ass music blowing my ears out or some surprise script that some teenager thought it'd be funny to include in their page. Don't get me started about page designs... I've only seen a FEW that are good, the rest are god awful!

avatarSuch a thing as too customizable?

Everyone I know flocked to Facebook once MySpace apps started installing malware.  They don't seem to check any of the third-party apps for that sort of thing.  Not to mention 3 out of 4 MySpace pages look like a clown threw up all over them while the worst music you've heard in a while plays in the background.

Just an awful "social networking" site all around.  And it doesn't seem to have long.

avatarI agree

Did those execs even visit a MySpace page before buying it? I know it is "your space" but I feel like I am walking into a teenager's messy bedroom complete with loud crappy music everytime I visit a MySpace page. Take everything that made webpages bad in the 90's and you can still find it action. I'm actually surprised they haven't resurected some old tags for the homepage. <blink>Join Now!</blink>

avatarhmm here is a thought.

hmm here is a thought.   Get rid of all the phishing scams and all the spam on myspace and maybe it might not die.  Fox company as a whole doesn't seem to bright.

avataryeah...

I'm fairly certain that Fox is actually run by a pack of chimps in suits.  Really, what other explanation is even plausible?
