MPAA Suffers Serious Layoffs

Citing an un-named studio source, CNet says the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has gone through a "significant" round layoffs. Significant in this case means over 10 percent, with even more layoffs on the way, according to the source.
The MPAA apparently confirmed the layoffs to CNet, but wasn't as forthcoming on the exact number. Nor did the company say how the staff reduction would affect its antipiracy efforts, including its current legal battle against RealDVD over alleged copyright infringement, which is scheduled to go to court again on April 1. But an MPAA spokeswoman did say that its leadership is mostly unaffected, perhaps suggesting that the trade group has no plans of letting up its copyright crusade on behalf of the six largest film studios it represents.

A silver lining to the recession. Maybe now these people can go find something useful to do.
They are only getting rid of

They are only getting rid of people that actually do labor and making the staff that remains do double or triple the work in the same amount of time. That's usually how things like this work. Of course you'll never see an executive empty His/Her own waste basket even into the recycle bin. God forbid an executive even ever touches a wet rag or a dustmop.
When I was in the US Army everyone was trained as a Janitor 1st and as a Infantryman 2nd and then you went on to AIT (Advance Individual Training) to learn your primary MOS but that was really your secondary because we had no janitors we had to do all the cleaning at the end of the day.
