More Sites Stepping up to Ban Sex Offenders
New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced on Thursday that 13 more social sites, including those owned by Google, Yahoo, and AOL, have all agreed to purge sex offenders from their sites. The agreement comes just a week after Cuomo announced that Facebook and MySpace had removed over 3.500 New York sex offenders.
"It is no secret that sexual predators abuse social networking websites to find and manipulate victims and to insinuate themselves into their victims' lives," said Cuomo. "e-STOP allows social networking websites to identify these sex predators and help prevent them from harming again."
Cuomo was referring to New York's Electronic Securing and Targeting of Online Predators Act (e-STOP), of which 15 major social networking companies have now agreed to use. The law makes it mandatory for sex offenders to register their email accounts, screen names, and any other online identifiers with the state Division of Criminal Justice Services. That information is then passed along to social networking sites.

In general, the way we have started treating sex offenders is bordering on unconstitutional. Yes, they have committed some of the most hateful crimes people are capable of, yet we continue to restrict where they may live, work, or even which homeless shelters can take them in even after they have served their prison sentences. This sounds satisfying on first listen – after all, why wouldn’t we want to take every possible measure to prevent the horrendous crimes of sex offenders? But many legal blogs are pointing out that the legislation is overzealous and possibly unconstitutional. London escorts

Anyone can accuse anyone of anything. Many people cannot afford competent legal representation. Sex offenses can include a huge variety of behaviors, many of which fall into grey areas. If you go on one of those college nude bike rides, should you be considered a sex offender for exposing yourself in public? If you hit a nude beach like they have in SF are you a sex offender? Get drunk and go streaking? The law might say yes.
Second, predatory child molesters are most often people well known to the family. Look at the Catholic Church, the church in Texas that recently was exposed, Ted Haggard, and Mark Foley. These people had entire networks helping to cover up their sexual indiscretions. Any young person accusing their pastor or senator would be disbelieved, even after the revelations about these activities. These people aren't on Match.com looking for single mothers like, say, Phil Giordano, a one time GOP candidate for Joe Lieberman's seat, might have done when he was looking for crack whores with pretty daughters.
This just makes it more likely that people will lie about themselves. Don't believe anything you see on the internet without getting some verification, and don't be the kind of rube who goes out with strangers you meet on the net. Don't put your personal information on the internet for the world to see. Trading liberty for safety gets you neither.

some should read about more than cpu cycles.......sex offenders are extremely likely to be repeat offenders..
they take children and sexually abuse them then they kill them...
what is wrong with you guys? do you really want that to happen... i have absolutly no respect for those of you standing up for the kidnapping, rapeing, and murder of our children.
time and time again it has happend....
some fool actually lets these criminals out of prison, there is no fixing these people. for some it is only months. others it can be years, then they are plotting again thinking this time they will be smarter somehow smoother and just will not get caught.

There is a disturbing witch hunt mentality where "sexual predators" are concerned. That group is harrassed mercilessly. I don't find them any more offensive than murders or drug dealers. There are also, from my limited experience, more of them that are convicted unfairly. It seems that all someone has to do is accuse another person and bam, they are instantly in jail. Then, after they serve their time, this kind of crap? Come on people, give them a chance to reintegrate into society.
Before anyone reading this jumps to some kind of conclusion, I am not a "sexual predator" nor have I ever been accused of such. I just think people go a little bit insane when this subject comes up.

exactly, so the state says "your cured" and the first thing you do is...go around the neighbor hood of your new home and tell them, due to core mandate, "i'm a convicted child molester"
Honestly i'd rather know about the ex-serial axe killer who just moved in then the guy who boiked a 16 year old he though was 18... There are "tame" child molesters but theirs no "tame" serial killer.

>90% of child sexual abuse cases involve someone the child knows....
Can't these parents actually look after their ******* kids, instead of everyone else. Either that, or don't have them.

is this currently serveing/indited only or even ones the state has declared "cured." I hate the idea of paranoid groups bock anyone after they did their time from living their lives. If that policy was usiform we might as well put shoplifters to the chair as well. Your either cured or not people need to let go and move on.
