Mobile Battery Dead? Buy a Coke!

All this time scientists have been experimenting with lithium-ion, lithium polymer, and nickel-metal hydride, when they should have been focusing on soda. That’s what Chinese developer Daizi Zheng did, and he managed to produce a mobile phone battery that can be powered by Coca Cola.
Zheng’s effort was part of an eco project. Zheng sought to develop a bio-friendly battery, to offset the ecological harm of regular mobile phone batteries. His invention generates electricity from the sugar in soft drinks through the use of enzymes. While any sugar-based soda will do, the battery works best with Coca Cola.
Zheng’s battery is no slouch. Besides being fully biodegradable it will last four times longer than a traditional battery. Possible pricing wasn’t mentioned, but from the photos of the device styling is a bit of an issue.

Probably the inventor will make a lot of money if this ingenious method will go out, but I'm skeptical regarding its lifetime. Soon we will have phones based on beer or hamburgers. But how about a solar powered phone charger? This way you wouldn't have to buy anything.

My Father was production manager for Lord Electric, Local 5, for...oh....about...40 years. They did small jobs...like Cement Plants, Steel Mills, etc.

i dont really trust this not since i tried to eat my chocolat phone and got hurt. im not sure about this but its a great idea.

It must be the acidity of the coke that does it. I wonder if there are more acidic drinks, maybe they can make a model where you can just dump sulphuric acid into it? Dangerous but a good experiment maybe?

Not surprised in the least. I remember my brothers back in the late 80s were trying to start a car in our yard, to no avail. The Battery was dead.
So one of them gets the bright idea to pour some Coke in an old car battery and install that. Started right up. Of course, it didn't STAY charged, but it did start the car.

Car batteries are lead-acid. Coke is fairly acidic (3.4 ph vs. 0.8 for battery acid) and would work to top up the battery temporarily.

why not dr.pepper? and when can i buy a soda powered google android phone and we will never ever see a soda powered iphone or apple product of any kind because it will last too long. apple wants your phone to die as soon as the warrenty ends.so you can buy another crappy apple product.

Dr. Pepper is the holy nectar of the gods and should not be wasted on trivial matters like cell phones. In an emergancy, who needs to call the police if you have a can of DP?
