Military Launches Its Very Own YouTube Clone
Posted 11/12/08 at 02:54:44 PM | by Andy Salisbury

After banning the troops from YouTube in 2007 for bandwidth and security issues, the Military is attempting to turn a quagmire into something positive.
The attempt, better known as the US Military’s new video sharing site, aptly named TroopTube, is already up and running. Potential members can register as a member of one of the three braches of the armed forces, a family member, or a civilian. Once registered, users can upload personal videos. But instead of being simply processed, this time the video is screened by a Pentagon employee to ensure that there isn’t anything naughty.
“A lot of people are excited … to be doing something for the people who make sacrifices,” said Alex Castro, the Chief Executive on the project. “We're proud of this.”

Three branches of the military?! They must not be counting the Air Force. :-)
Because if they ain't counting the Marines, R. Lee Ermey is gonna come over and set their undisciplined civilian asses straight.
It seems like even the Department of Defense can't get it right. There are FIVE branches of military of the United States: Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and the Coast Guard. Give the coasties a break! they've served their time too.
Next year for Veteran's Day, instead of playing WoW, I suggest the staff of MaximumPC spend the day sending copies of the mag to our service men and women.
Semper Fi.
Good call!

It never fails. Anytime the Marines are bundled up with the Navy they start bitching and moaning. The most important fact in this long running arguement is this: the Marines receive funding THROUGH the Navy. It's like a teenager trying to enjoy freedom from their parents. You may operate outside their house, but so long as you're taking their money, you're still under their roof. ;-)
Four Branches

Not trying to be a pain, but the article should read four branches of the military - unless you are counting the Marines and the Navy as one branch. I wouldn't want to be you if that's so... lol
Beyond that, it's a very cool idea for the troops!
