If you can't afford $1.49 for an app you clearly can't afford whatever you're running it on.

Why doesn't everybody in America just pony up a buck and send it in to MS. This way make everything free and save everyone the trouble.

I don't have a problem with an app store per say, but I do have a problem when a company is heavily promoting advertising in said apps.

My favorite bit is this: "Windows 8 presents new opportunities for both developers and advertisers."

To me this is saying that Win 8 is an advertising platform. And knowing what they have done on the Xbox with their "Dash Board" and the ads all over it, I would say it is just a matter of time before MS says that you have to have ads on Metro to offset the cheap upgrade price. I say this because of a survey MS recently had that was all about advertising with the "Metro" look and the above quote.

so what you're saying is that you've a problem with all of the following?

steam
google play
google search
android
bing
playstation
cell phones
ios
apple app store
itunes
shopping malls
movie theaters
cable television
fm radio
msft office 2010 starter
download redirect sites
review sites, including maximumpc (you are here)

shall I continue..?

lol.

There is nothing that Win8 apps can do that I'm not already doing in Win7 with free software.

Except for DVD label printing, haven't found one of those yet.

Just purchase an Epson printer and you won't need labels, just printable media. At least that is what I do.

PAY FOR APPS? I have been eliminating all the apps on my Metro page. I am down to 4:

You only need the first one. Why do you have those other 3 garbage tiles.

Also, it's a good idea to add links to desktop apps in the start menu.

What's a "Start Menu"?
I keep the other apps as I actually LIKE the weather app and use it. The store is good for laughs and the SkyDrive I use as my last chance backup of photos.

Does the $1.49 mean the minimum for paid apps or does that mean that all apps must have a minimum of $1.49? In other words, will there be free ($0.00) apps?

avatar

John Pombrio

There already are a lot of free apps in the Win8 app store.

OMF'nG. 1.49 for apps? F'real?

I can see it now....15000 apps for facebook/twitter clients. 25000 stickey note apps. 10000 camera apps for the webcam. 13500 memory saver apps. The list will go on and on.

So retarded.

Sadly, almost all other app stores are the same exact way. At least the apps are 50 cents cheaper though.

actually this pricing makes Msft effectively thrice as cheap (*3.3x repeating almost actually) as crApple or el Goog since all Store purchases are tied to your Microsoft Account and are good across up to 5 devices running Windows 8, Windows RT and probably Windows Phone 8 or/and XBox360 for certain apps
