Microsoft Scraps Courier Tablet Project
Microsoft is said to have scrapped its promising Courier project, which first met the public eye in September last year, when beleaguered tech blog Gizmodo broke the news of its existence. The tablet concept prompted many aspiring tablet owners, especially those looking past the iPad, to pin their hopes on its launch.
There was never any official word regarding the possibility of a commercial launch, however, a recently published New York Times report did have the dual-screen tablet shipping by the beginning of next year. But it has now emerged that Microsoft has chosen to bid adieu to the Courier at the end of the incubation period itself.
Frank Shaw, Microsoft's VP of corporate communications, told Gizmodo that, while some of its constituent technologies might be present in future Microsoft products, the company has “no plans to build such a device at this time.”

So Microsoft finally comes out with a new and innovative piece of hardware and then decides not to sell it? I was so excited about the Courier, but now my heart is broken, and Microsoft just got much less cool overnight.

That is why Apple is successful, and others not when it comes to innovative products. Apple knows how to execute and make their ideas come to life. Others, like Microsoft, well, they just have the ideas. Just like you or me, I'm sure a lot of people reading MaxPC have all these great ideas in our heads - but sadly, they'll just end up stuck in our heads.

is good at is convincing the gullable masses that a piece of shit is the holy grail of geek gadgetry. Seriously iPad? Microsoft has lied about scrapped projects before (ie project pink). I think MS scrapped Courier right now is because they think that what's the point in making a creation tablet when they could have made a piece of crap like the iPad?

If Microsoft is working on a Tablet, please make an XBOX360 tablet. One that has a browser.

That was about the HP Slate, which was also cancelled today. The Slate looked lousy, but the Courier was actually pretty awesome looking. Kind of a bummer, I think.
