so those high-res graphics games (farcry2 and upcoming #3, crysis series, Just cause 2, etc) won't run on win8 ??

Win8 only runs applications such as angrybird and solitaire ? no HALO ? *scratches head* .. are you telling me Win8 is an 8-bit operating system ? what a way to downgrade our PC Enthusiast hardwares !

I guess I'll be using win7-64bit forever then.

"Win8 only runs applications such as angrybird and solitaire?"

As far as I can tell, this app is Metro only, so for Win8 RT, the answer is yes (which is expected given it's target user). For Win8 x86 and x64, this app will be available in Metro, but we will still be able to install and play games the old fashioned way via the desktop.

Skylark, Thanks :) but i would guess, aside from the metro UI, win8 probably have a more powerful I/O and system handling for hardcore PC games. The Metro UI layer is probably analogous to the MediaCenter layer on win7 !

Sigh.... Just portable apps. (yes, apps in this case), almost every one is available on my Android Tablet.. I guess the 100's of millions of Desktop PC's worldwide don't matter anymore to M$..

In all fairness...we already have big PC game titles. Microsoft has never offered anything more than casual games via Windows. Minesweeper, solitaire, etc. All they did is add more.

It's funny that this is what Valve is afraid of. I think it will be much more appealing when they start to leverage their other platforms. Having integration with Xbox, Windows Phone, the desktop, and RT could actually work out well for them in the gaming space.

xbox games are gay
all consol and consol based games are gay

I want better Live support on PC because I game of both console and desktop. However, many of my friends only play games on console, and it's still nice being able to chat or even play some games with them if I'm on PC at the time. GFWL has a good portion of Live integration, but GFWL is also terrible platform for those that game on PC, and it needs to be reworked from the ground up.

Being able to buy a game on a Microsoft store and play it on any number of devices (phone, tablet, desktop/notebook, or console) is great for everyone. Developers can make their software available to more people across a wider range of devices, with minimum effort. End users then have the option to play a game on whatever they happen to be using at the moment, or whatever medium they prefer. I'm not expecting to see large triple a titles like Mass Effect on here. I'm thinking smaller games like Limbo, Binding of Issac, or Bastion.

Valve already does this with Portal on the PS3, and even syncs saves so you can play the game on whatever device suits you. Since Microsoft is unifying all their platforms starting with Windows 8, it'd be stupid if they didn't start pushing cross platform applications.

Besides MMOs what games are you playing today that aren't heavily influenced by titles in the console space?

I agree with the core of your post, I'd love to be able to play the (generally) superior PC versions of games with/against my friends' console versions. Borderlands 2 on 360 will not be fun. At least the PS3 can sport an SSD, poorly, but still it helps the load times. The 360 takes minutes to load in some games.

"I'm not expecting to see large triple a titles like Mass Effect on here. I'm thinking smaller games like Limbo, Binding of Issac, or Bastion. "

I think that this could be our only hope of seeing more AAA console titles on the PC in a timely and functional manner. I don't see why we'd want those games as they're already on Steam, and will hopefully make it to GOG in our lifetimes. As I hear it, many devs of games like those aren't even putting their games on consoles due to diminishing returns, most notably Orcs Must Die 2 isn't on 360.

"Besides MMOs what games are you playing today that aren't heavily influenced by titles in the console space?"

It's the other way around, PC games influence console games.

PC GAMERS WOULD RATHER DIE THAN SEE GFWL POLUTE THEIR PC!!! Reworked or not, GFWL is a joke. PC's shouldn't fold to shitty, unplayable consol graphics. If developers want my $40+ for a game, it better NOT HAVE GFWL OR ANY OTHER BULLSHIT DRM, it MUST have the developers MAXIMUM effort put into it, and it better have some good fucking graphics, like crysis.

REAL PC GAMERS EXPECT NOTHING LESS, AND WILL NOT SETTLE FOR NOTHING LESS!
