Laptop Adapters...

The content is really useful in my work, but I can't see the pictures. What a pity!!!

The ping pong commercial was so ridiculous I had to laugh. Honestly I laughed at most of them, though I thought they were all pretty bad.

So Windows 8 is supposed to be, in the Asian commercials, the 3rd "finger-fu" guy and the third woman in the makeup contest? Or is it supposed to be all 6 of the contestants? I could see it either way TBH.

In the piano/ping-pong video, since they were both doing the same thing are they both supposed to be Windows 8? If so, how did one "lose"? If they're supposed to be using very similar, yet not different, "operating systems" then what was the loser using as the winner is then using Windows 8?

Microsoft: "Google Docs requires an internet connection, and that's bad"

Microsoft: "Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection"

Me: "wat"

The always-on connection required Xbox Durango rumor has been debunked.

Except that that internal email was sent after they made these ads. And when was the last time an enterprise wide all hands email reminded you that something was unchanged?

That was exactly the way Microsoft said it, and the user is just expected "deal with it".

When you can't say something good about yourself, say something bad about the competition.

Microsoft is done.

Rob Schneider is funny in the gambling ad.

Still, Microsoft relying on funny adds to overshadow what its doing to its customer base? How stupid can they be? Well, then again, every big business does it. Just look to insurance company advertisements for a great example of whitewashing customer abuse.

Maybe teens are the target audience?

I don't understand these or any of the Windows 8 ads like dancing with the Surface Tablet. They appear not to sell the product but just to say Windows 8 is now available.

But to put the disgraced baseball player Pete Rose in an ad is just plain insulting. The ads are just as bad as the OS (Windows 8).

Oh mercy ..... The American adds sucked but boy oh boy, those Asian ones had me cracking up on the bus. Poor lady next to me. Ha.

logicmaster2003

yea same here !! I also thought the US-based ads looked so lame and very very very unappealing, and I must admit that the chinese ads were quite entertaining !

Absolutely nothing was or is as bad as the old Mac Vs. PC Ads. In fact that is what started me disliking Apple.

avatar

danwat1234

Rob Schneider is in both the basketball one and the gambling one.

avatar

The Mac

had to go back and look, yup he the google player..

Good old Microsoft, trying desperately to be hip and cool when it never will be.

avatar

crwlngkngsnk

But Rob Scheider is so hip, so cool, so now.

I think the Asian Vids are just what Microsoft needs BUT in the US ! Nobody like bashing, people can make their own minds up about what product they need so I find the US vids a bit obnoxious. I'm still laughing.....

avatar

The Mac

Is that Rob Schneider playing the dealer in the 1st one?

avatar

SpecNode

The Japanese commercials are awesome. The American ones suck.

avatar

logicmaster2003

those were chinese ads; Microsoft won't be able to pay japs for casting commercials (way way too expensive)

avatar

AFDozerman

That was chinese...

Not sure, actually, didn't sound like Mandarin to me, so it might be some different dialect.

The charset for the channel names are. however, definitely Chinese.

/me shrugs.

But it's actually pretty culturally-tied for commercials, I kinda understood all the non-US ones...

Piano especially, my god, Piano playing and Ping-pong champion? Talk about a Chinese parent's dreams? /joking.

I'm still trying to gather the bits and fragments of mind that was blown to bits at how horrible and stupid these clips are. The only thing funny about the Google Docs ones was Pete Rose, and his wasn't the funny in the intentional way he was shooting for. The foreign ones were better, but other than the first one, they left me scratching my head wondering, "WTF just happened?"

On a side note, I wonder what else would work with butt-wagging ping pong...

avatar

AFDozerman

I wouldn't say cultural nuances are the problem here. The asain commercials for windows8 are fuckin hilarious.

avatar

Neufeldt2002

Ummm, Okay. Personally, didn't care for them, they seem like MS is desperately trying to create a viral video, but failing. Just my opinion though as I realize that I am not the market they are trying to capture. Although the last one is cute, they ruin it by claiming that Win 8 is beautiful. Win 8 to me is Fugly, I really don't like the look of it, and I don't like the minimalist desktop as it has no depth.

Cheesy as all get out, but better than many so called "blockbuster" movies I've thrown away money on at the cinema.
