Windows 8 works great with my dual monitor setup. I can have the original dektop on one monitor and metro on the other to use as a shortup desktop. I have to admit though, with a single monitor I would not have upgraded.

I wonder though if it was done on purpose...people may not be willing to move to windows 8 but if they can get it for free they might try to. This would get a lot more people into the system to sell windows apps to. Then after a awhile they seal it up and now the people that pirated it get locked out unless they pay for the OS. Well of course they will now pay because they will be invested in the apps. Just a theory, and I know mistakes happen, but this is a pretty big one that you'd think wouldn't have slipped through....almost seems blatant to me. My tin foil hat needs repaired....the signals are getting into my brain!!!!! ;)

Summary: You might have heard reports that Microsoft has accidentally been giving away free licenses to Windows 8 Pro. Sorry, but that's not true. It's just another move in the long cat-and-mouse game between Microsoft and the pirates.

Hilarity

Running Win 8 Pro for $15 on all 3 systems - HTPC, porn box, and gaming box. No problems. The people who still use XP should be executed. Old ass piece of shit.

My main home computer is still using XP. I have an OEM win7 pro disk that I have been meaning to use to upgrade the main home computer. There's no way I'm putting win8 on anything. Admittedly, I only played around with win8 for 15 minutes, but what I saw looked horrible.

I'll tell ya what folks...win8 is selling so poorly and MS is being so stubborn I wouldn't be surprised if MS did NOT "*inadvertantly* serve pirates win8 pro on a silver platter".

Let's look at the situation here. They are selling a WHOLE NEW OPERATING SYSTEM for thirty eight bucks. They are refusing to give people the option to go with win7. They have recently started producing their own hardware. Windows for ARM systems is permanent as in you can't change your operating system on that machine EVER. MS has figured out a way to SCREW linux users...see this link.

Kinda looks to me like we are all being herded into the cattle chutes.

"My main home computer is still using XP.".... ARE YOU SERIOUS?

"Admittedly, I only played around with win8 for 15 minutes, but what I saw looked horrible."

Describes most of the Windows 8 haters and whiners.

Yeah, it's as if Windows 7 AND 8 were spyware platforms they want everyone to use

As if

We all know that's not true though because its not as if the entire industry stopped making XP compatible hard drives or SSD's

It's not like the entire Industry started making a new BIOS that only works with spyware platforms after all

They would have needed to keep everything under wraps and closed source as well and we just don't see that happening

So go ahead and use Windows 7 and 8

After all, it's not as if only Microsoft and their cronies can control the future and everyone else can just F^%$ Off

Apple's closed source, walled garden is also a player here

They are both completely LEGIT

Now go back to sleep, it's only gunfire

I bet you're loads of fun at parties.

Oops

Did I just call Apple a closed source, walled garden?

What I meant to say was.....

Both Microsoft and Apple are completely Legit um....platforms
Both have complete Government support and backing
Just like Flame and Stuxnet

I got my free Media Center key via email for Microsoft's promotion going on til January. Insert key, computer reboots automatically, boom! Fully licnesed and permanently activated Windows 8 Pro x64 with Media Center.

Pirates will always do what they do what they do. As for Windows 8 it's almost been a month since I installed it on my laptop and no crashes or problems and I've learned to get used to or push the new start menu aside. I have noticed it getting a little sluggish which was the same problem on a different system when windows 7 came out years ago. I've also noticed recently my Graphics performing poorly in comparison to before when it was first installed and when 7 was on here.

VanDaMan

actually, it's even easier than this, there are already torrents available for a windows 8 professional with Media Center integrated ISO image for both x86 and x64. These accept the media center key and activate with them with no problems. I have two systems that I tried it on fresh installs using the x64 version, works perfectly.

I was one who vowed to hate it til its EOL! But I ended up installing it and liking it a whole lot. once you rid of metro and get a start menu back it has some nice new features, and it boots ridiculously fast! So I used it for two weeks and it seemed pretty solid... then I went to play battlefield 3 with friends and framerates were HORRIBLE and choppy.. would drop to blow 20fps at times.. mind you I have a 1090t, 16gb ram, 2x EVGA GTX580SC all sitting on an asus sabertooth 990fx.. and when I took to the interwebs I was not the only onc with issues.. so im now back on win 7.. ill give it another shot when SP1 comes out. until then.. sorry MS but Gabe Newell was correct.. Windows 8 is horrendous for the gaming world

Metro was a big reason I haven't installed it yet. Just don't like it. With software around to help reduce Metro's appearance I'm more interested in installing it because I liked everything else about 8.

I'm still holding off for a while though. I'm going to wait until the kinks are worked out. Bugs, glitches, software incompatibilities etc. I'll also probably wait til a SP1 unless it takes way too long. I already have the OS purchase so I don't need to worry about losing the initial discount price.

Once I gave Metro a chance on my desktop computer, it was pretty good. But I still installed a start screen remover and program to get my start menu back. Windows 8 has some really good features for power users... I'm sure everyone knows by now.

It was so worth paying only $40 for the professional upgrade.

GuitarNinja27

Yea, but the question still stands: Who the hell wants to install Windows 8?

avatar

Valkin07

I fucking love it, multi-monitors actually works now, IIS has some better features and switching in and out of games has never been faster

avatar

Budman_NC

Yo GuitarNinja27, those who don't mind Micro$oft dictating how their computer should operate and what software they can run ala walled garden. Those who adopt W8 are no better than the iSheep that blindly accept whatever Apple throws at them. Everyone with any sense knows that Metro and the lack of a start menu should've been OPTIONS so users would have control over what THEY wanted, NOT what M$ wanted. Go ahead and herd along now, like good little M$ sheep all you early W8 adopters and let M$ tell YOU how you're computer should function. Newer is not always better.

pastorbob

Baaaaa!

avatar

jnite

People with software to remove Metro as much as possible. Will be what I do if I decide to install.

avatar

And3rs0nTX

I would install it but there is no way in hell that I would pay for it.

Those with an open mind and can handle change and are not set in their ways.

avatar

B.A.Frayd

Having and open mind is great, unless it's so open that your brain falls out.

avatar

Blackbird24

Many people are liking it, even the people who said they will never install it, they love it now. Many people have change their minds about it.

Is this a toothpaste commercial? (9 out of 10 dentists recommend this product...).
Provide names and contact information so that we can call them and tell them how dumb they are.

That would be me.
