I'm waiting until the next gen consoles come out to pick up a 360 =P

Ugh, why would you want a 360 then?

Theoretically, since the 360 is just a crappy PC in a box, as will the 720 be, the 720 (next xbox) will be able to play 360 games with greatly improved graphics.

Playing 360 exclusive titles on the cheap! I picked up a PS2 long after the PS3 has been out for a while.

Its ridiculous that XBL gold is being priced at $15 a month. $20 for 3 months was bad enough. One of the reasons I have abandoned consoles is for this exact kind of crap.

XBox Live Gold isn't being priced at the $14.99 rate. That rate is for paying off the rest of the price of the console, as well as the cost of XBL Gold

This would be an awesome deal if it included (as part of the Gold membership) a "Game of the month" or something like that. Or, with the age of the current console, make the console free.

As it is, the person signing on for this would be getting a 6 or 7 year old console and have paid $459 (after the two year period)or so plus games for a 9 year old console? eh...

I don't know how anyone could live with the 4 GB xbox, the ridiculously limited space on my 20 GB xbox is brutal. The 250 GB xbox allows for more game installs & DLC, which are essential with the ancient, slow-as-dirt xbox.

I'm going to have issues fitting all the DLC from the Borderlands 2 Season Pass onto my puny 360. I pity anyone who has the 4 GB version as they can't install the game and have all the DLC installed simultaneously. I'm not even sure they have enough space to install the game to begin with (though if they could, I wonder if the 4 GB storage solution is speedier than the slow xbox HDD solution).

I'd like to see the Xbox 720 come out already, I'm tired of playing low resolution, long load time, low framerate games on 360. Its time has passed. Failing that, I'd like to see the Steam box. Gaming with friends who don't want to get into PC gaming requires the use of a console but with the consoles so far behind the PC it is brutal. The difference between Borderlands on the Xbox and Borderlands on the PC is striking, it's like playing 2 completely different games.

people who sign up for a 2 year cell phone plan are pretty much doing the same thing. I for 1 prefer to pay up front and save in the long run but can see where this deal would appeal to some people.

not a good compare there i mean with a cell phone you get a 2 year contract yes but you get a FREE phone and the service that you would already be paying for to use it

avatar

tmh44

actually the phone isn't free. The price of the phone is subsidized and made part of the overall monthly cost to have the service. that is why you have to sign a contract

You CAN get a free phone, but lots of people pay 100-300 bucks for the phone and sign up for a contract.

I am a Microsoft employee at the store in Huntington Station, NY. I can tell you personally that customers love the subsidized pricing, because it makes the console more affordable to own up-front, and they don't mind the $14.99/month for LIVE Gold. It's great for families on a budget, or students with limited funds. Also, having the monthly payment makes the renewal of XBox LIVE Gold more structured. So instead of having to remember when your subscription expires, you just renew it on a monthly basis and keep on playing

"It's great for families on a budget, or students with limited funds."

I don't mean to dig on you and your post, but if you're on a limited budget or low on funds, affording a gaming console shouldn't be on your priority list.

This structure by MicroSoft is not a money saving plan for anyone. It is entirely structured to extract MORE cash from people over the long run while ensuring a steady monthly stream of income for the company.

As other sites have reported and calcualated, you end up paying more over the course of two years under this subsidized plan than if you had just outrigt bought it.

Considering the tech in these consoles are nearly 7 years old now, Microsoft should be giving them away for free with a 2 year contract.

if you cannot afford to buy the system outright then you probably cannot afford the internet required to play it the flat screen tv and the 15$ monthly fee that you are forced into i think the xbox 360 is dying and Microsoft is trying to get the last drops of blood before it does

You don't necessarily need a flat-panel HDTV to play XBox. It works fine on older TV sets, big or small. And like I said, this is great for families on a budget or students with limited funds but want to keep their options open on consoles. We've had plenty of people coming in and taking advantage of the offer, and with the pricing soon to be available for the 250GB console, I can see quite a few people taking advantage of this

I agree. Alot of people buy flat screens used for less than $300 on craigslist and ebay etc. Paying $99 upfront and $14.99 for 24months makes more sense for some families. I think its a great deal honestly...
