Microsoft Exec: iPhone 4 is Apple's Vista
Microsoft's COO Kevin Turner may have let himself get a little carried away while poking fun at Apple at the Worldwide Partner Conference. In his keynote speech, the Microsoft Exec said, "It looks like the iPhone 4 might be their Vista, and I'm okay with that." We're just guessing, but that's probably not a Microsoft approved analogy.
The antenna issues in the iPhone 4 have been well known since launch. In this case a Microsoft Executive just decided to imply the iPhone 4 will damage Apple like Vista damaged Microsoft. Nothing wrong with trashing a product that was your employer's flagship only a year ago, right? Turner used this interesting line of reasoning to talk up the upcoming Windows Phone 7 platform.
Windows Vista was much maligned by consumers and reviewers alike at launch thanks to hardware incompatibilities and software bugs. If we extend Turner's analogy, does that mean Apple will learn from the iPhone 4 and hurry out a release that fixes all the problems a la Windows 7?

That to rectify the reception problem the phone is having by attaching some kind of bumper thing. Can anyone verify this?

yes.
Tape works too. Or using your right hand. Or resting the device on a table and poking it with your finger.

You can be sure that Apple's next phone won't have this issue. They won't make this mistake again. But the real question is whether they are going to do right by their customers and issue a recall to fix this phone. It's really their only option. If they give away free bumpers then they have admitted it is a defect and the lawsuits will fly. It's not a complete solution and many, rightfully, won't be satisfied with it. They need to remove all product off the shelves and issue a recall to fix the problem.

First, NO, as Apple has already dodged the issue by blaming all other cell phone makers saying all phones do this, even though their iphone4 has a glaringly bad problem with this.
But it's OK, because due to the nature of most Apple fans, they will likely defend Apple on this one. LOL..

but you can't recall a product without any faults or issues! Maybe the users need to be recalled!

Love the title. It is a good one.
Vista was a non-issue until they managed to catch up with their own ambitions. (please note, I tend to work in the phrase non-issue into anything I say these days)
Regarding humor; Large institutions, may it be companies, countries, religions, departments, etc, they don't have humor. Marketing firms may have humor as they may be hired by large companies and thus reflects an alien depiction of the company (Apple commercials may be funny, but Apple is not). Other companies with no sense of humor would be BP, Enron, Washington Mutual, GM. Further; the Vatican does not have humor. America does not have humor. The UK display humor as a self-defense mechanism because they have been humbled, but they surely was not very funny during their golden years. The educational department of your local museum does not have humor. Basically, any person in a suit reprsenting a larger entity than their own team of 1-5 people cannot display personality, and no humor, must be serious at all time so they won't get sacked - it harkens back to the formation of the French Army where everyone must be replaceable at a blink of an eye and leave no personal mark on their post. If you are wearing a suit, you know you are replacable by some other guy in a suit (of the same measurements).

They won't come out with a 'Windows 7' comeback.
To fix a problem, you have to admit that there is one.

Haha, EXACTLY what I was about to post. Only Apple won't ever admit to it's past faults. But through clever advertising, it's managed to attract personalities that not only feel superior, but will also never admit apple's faults. Or find some way to say something to discredit that simple truth. First off Vista didn't have any really huge faults. It's big problem was not many XP users really cared to get Vista. Not upgrading? Now THAT is a big problem for Microsoft because it had low sales. Next was some of the cheapest PC's didn't run it very well and it used more HD. But other than that, Vista was ok. On the sales front, it was a failure.
And THAT is what they meant by "Iphone 4 was Apple's Vista". It doesn't add tons of new features, and it has an antenna problem that's annoying. Therefore, a lot of previous iphone users will likely not upgrade to the iphone 4. Even though they say it has good sales, their sales could have been that much more had it not had these issues.
But I would be very surprised to see Apple ever admit to any faults. Not a good trait to have. Thankfully for Apple, it's fan base doesn't get that...

Apple should go ahead and release the iPhone 7. Skip 5 and 6, as the number 7 seemed to work for Microsoft. Add some new (not necessarily useful) features, ramp up the marketing, make the consumer think the iPhone 7 was there idea...it worked for Windows 7.

Good to see that even Microsoft has a sense of humour.

I was at this keynote, and it got a good laugh from the crowd.
At this conference, MS has been trashing Vista all over the place. the good ratings/reviews of win 7 and its great sales make it easy to do that. But MS does have tend to have somewhat of a sense of humor
I was at a Windows presentation yesterday where the the GM of Windows
Commercial Product Marketing was poking fun at MS Bob.At these things Microsoft appears is acutely aware of their shortcommings, and they typically don't shy away from admiting them. Of course, when they do, they normally say something like "but we're working really hard to be the best..."
