Microsoft Edits Laptop Hunter Ad over Apple Complaint
Microsoft was forced to edit one of its Laptop Hunter ads after Apple’s legal team highlighted the presence of an erroneous reference to the MacBook’s price in it. In the original ad, the protagonist, Lauren, who was shown scouring for a notebook under $1700 with her mother, disdainfully rejected a MacBook Pro due to its $2000 price tag. Even her mother backed her decision to reject the MacBook.
Apple drew Microsoft’s attention to the recent drop in MacBook prices, which rendered the reference to its starting price inaccurate. Microsoft has not only made the necessary edits but also pulled down the original version from video sharing websites like Youtube after receiving a phone call from Apple. The new ad features no direct reference to MacBook’s price, though the protagonist still fails to justify its price.
“We slightly adjusted the ads to reflect the updated pricing of the Mac laptop shown in the TV advertisement,” a Microsoft spokeswoman said in a statement. She further added that the focus of the campaign has remained intact.

Laptops are made so that one can take it anywhere & work in any posture or position. Ergonomic chairs & tables make it very systematic & comfortable way to work.

MS should retaliate with their own legal team against Apple adds about Vista and PC in general.
Apple is just a over spoiled sour grape.

How can Apple, of all companies, get upset about inaccurate advertising?

I have used most Operating Systems that are out today (Want to try Solaris someday). Ubuntu being probably my favorite right up there with Windows 7. Not a fan of Microsoft, but I find 7 more comfortable and it just simply flows better. (Boots faster too) And in all honesty, i've used Mac back when they came out with those super colorful iMac's and the iBook's, which were decent, I'll admit that, and as for MacBook Pro, it's nothing short of overpriced, and overhyped. It is somewhat easy, if you're not used to Windows, however, OS X is hard or irritating if you're used to Windows. Windows is irritating to Mac users, but they're required to know both because let's face it...mac is flashy, basically all there is to it. They try to look artsy an flashy, the mac selling point is you pay for aesthetics. The os is built from open source technology. I don't like or hate windows or mac, but I'm not a fan neither. This "feud" between what one is better, is complete shit. They're pretty balanced depending on what you want to do. Windows works for offices, most networks, gaming and media center setups (using a ps3 or xbox as well for this task) while Mac is useful for people who like IM, internet browsing, and some music editing.
I don't like Microsoft, I associate with it.

Umm. The apple adds use the term 'Vista.'
Anyways, Microsoft is a pussy imo now. They let Apple talk shit in all of their adds, then apple does a pricecut and Pussysoft has to change the add. They should have at least let it go to court, so that they could point out that Apple was hurt by the add.

Yes, you and I see that the adds actually got under Apples skin, but the people that arent surfing tech websites all day wont know that. Now they just see a weeker MS add. I would love to see some more aggresive adds from MS. Maybe once W7 is out, but you know Apple is going to come out with an add saying that W7 is what vista was supposed to be, its still broken, it should have been a serveice pack, etc.

Actually, I am going to disagree with you there. I think what they did was smart. They didn't take the ad down, but they did make a minor change. To me I imagined Microsoft doing so with a huge grin on their collective faces, knowing full well that this whole thing is going to be a big PR hit for Apple, making them look like, in the words of Sam Axe "a bunch of bitchy little girls". Is there a single person out there that hasn't seen the years of inane (though amusing none the less!) Apple "Mac vs PC" ads? I think they are going to make the association that Apple didn't just blink first, they actually cried and tried to take their ball and go home.

Nice Burn Notice reference its a great TV show.
Anyway i agree This is better for MS because now people can see just how scare apple really is, of these ads and how childish they. MS hasnt said a thing about Apple's defaming commercials and has now dropped the hammer on them, and apple knows it.
Its hard to sell a $1200 Mac when you can get the same in a PC for much less and once Windows 7 comes out id like to see a new wave of attacks directed at Apple, and there Service pack there calling mountian lion or Bagheera or what ever the fuck it is

Actually i dont think you can use somebodys name and likeness with out there permission. You see the mac ads where not about microsoft/windows they were about "mac" and "PC". Of course mac can use its own name and technically PC is a acronim for personal computer.

So wait, you make an ad in November that says our product is X and our competitor's product is Y, you then have go back and re-do your ad if the competitor changes their price to Y-100? I don't think that's the way it's supposed to work. At worst, all MS should have to do is put a disclaimer on the ad stating that those were the prices at the time the ad was created.

You may get more value from DIY pcs but you can't go out and buy laptop parts and build one (other than the arguably failed OCZ DIY laptop).

Apple starts losing sales and Microsoft sees increasing profit-even if it's a very small % and Apple has to go "Oh, hey your ad is wrong we dropped our price by $100, so take it down". I wish more people realized that you can get better price/performance out of DIY PCs.
I have used a MAC, I have used a PC. Windows is not that difficult to maintain. I'm not a fanboy, not for anything that comes my way. It's just sad that Apple did this.
