Microsoft Announces Xbox Live Family Pack
The American Dream, which calls for a wife, 2.5 kids, and a white picket fence, never took into consideration the mounting cost of Xbox Live Gold memberships for the entire family, which adds up rather quickly. To help address this, come November Microsoft will begin selling Xbox Live Gold Family Packs for $100, which will offer up to four individual Gold memberships for the price of two.
More than just four Live Gold accounts, the Family Pack also opens up a few additional perks, including a new Family Center accessible through the Xbox dashboard. As Microsoft explains it, you can expect easier family management, access to activity monitoring reports, and the ability to purchase and give away Microsoft Points to little Johnny rather than pay him an allowance.
There will also be exclusive family content and discounts, though Microsoft didn't outline exactly what these would entail. For more info, check out the full press release here.

Y'know, if you think about it, instead of eating out a few nights of the year, you could just make a meal at home, and there's your Xbox Live membership. And the prices aren't that bad spread out over a year. I used to think I'd never spend that kind of money to play online, and now I don't even think about it. It's like paying the electric bill once a year.
Or, if the $50 is just too much for you to spring for, order a membership card from Newegg for $40 once a year.
Seriously, Xbox Live is the best online experience I've ever had to date--much better than that on the PS3. And aside from that, PS3's gonna make you pay for the premium service too. So why not get the better-developed, more stable version?

I agree that the Live experience is much better than PSN or Nintendo's offering. The people on Live aren't. The homophobes, racist, and shear number of prepubescent children that could kick my ass in person is staggering. Every time I hop on live for multi player gaming I have to ask why the hell am I paying money for this? Then I end up wishing the game was for PC instead. In general the console on line gaming experience is soured by the players for me.
Xbox Live is like a vocal version of YouTube comments. You can mute people, but it still makes me wonder why people act this way on live and not in person.

What's so wrong with PS3 online experience ?
Ppl keep mentioning it, but I am not sure since I never tried Xbox Live.
I did try Rock Bending on PS3 and it was great.

Couldn't have said it better my self. The Vocal experience is a bad one. I usually just mute people of turn my mic volume down/off (which some games don't make that easy at all to do, Bungie has a good way for halo). And you can't always play in a party but thats only really good when you know who you are playing with. But if there was one thing that I could change that would be it.

Work for Microsoft much? If you don't work for Microsoft, then you are really eating up their PR.
Seriously, I wouldn't buy an X-box for 2 reasons:
- paying anything to play online is silly.
- I have heard nothing but bad things about the people who use Xbox Live. I don't need kids swearing at me.
I play TF2 on the PC, and I get a better experience for free.

Uhh, NO actually, I don't work for Microsoft. And I don't do the "fanboy" thing either. Whichever console offers the more fun experience is the one I'll buy for, and at the moment, that happens to be the Xbox 360. Sure, some of the people online do suck, but I think it depends on the games you play online too. I used to play Street Fighter II HD Remix, and I had several friends who were very skilled and very sportsmanlike.
Yes, sometimes I do get the scum of Live's underbelly, but most of the time, people I play with are people I could play with again.
And you claim that "paying to play online is silly", but what about all the MMO's who require continuous funds to remain active? For the sheer number of people who utilize Xbox Live, and the quality of service you get, I honestly don't mind spending a few bucks a month.

"And I don't do the "fanboy" thing either." - I don't know where to begin with this statement.
If you really wanted the best experience, you would only play PC. The fact that you say that you use whichever console offers the best experiece screams the fact that you are not actually after the best experience. Consoles can't offer the best experience.

Oh, I game on the PC too. It's all a matter, though, of what games work best for which system. RTS, for example, is one of my big pursuits, and it works best on PC. However, fighting games are another one of my hobbies, and those are generally better on a console.

This is exact reason why I don't own a single game (except ones that came with my 360) and why I will not buy a single game for this system (all of my gaming money is spend on my PS3 system).
So until 360 membership becomes free, my xbox will only be used (as is now) as a media center extender (even though is noisy as a helicopter) .
