McAfee was my first AV software. However on many occasions its runtime scanner McShield.exe regularly blocked the computer even when I opened a folder. There was no message to tell me what was going on, which is very unfriendly user interaction.

Its starting time is very long and generally McAfee is a clumsy AV software and I am wondering how it still finds a place among the top ten AV applications (eg. on CNET http://www.cnet.com/topic-reviews/antivirus.html). It IS effective (far better than NOD32), but there are so many problem areas that it's not worth even trying the trial version.

There is a very dangerous function, as well, called McAfee QuickClean (under 'Maintain Computer'). Apart from cleaning the Internet cache, the Registry and temporary files, it also wipes off C:/ntldr and C:/ntdetect.com, which makes the computer unbootable. So while using McAfee last year, I always had with me a CD with the root directory files to recover the computer after cleaning :(

With Licenses written the way they are protecting the license issuer from just about everything, what financial obligation can McAfee be held responsible for? How much money do you have to lose before a protective license becomes void and McAfee becomes financially responsible for losses incurred?

This won't end well for the boys over at McAfee i'm afraid....

McAfee is probably remaining silent because they know that anything they do say can be used against them in a court of law--in the coming lawsuit(s).

Mcafee is like the generic  brand of anti-virus suites. What kind of quality control did they REALLy expect?
