Maximum PC Digital Edition: Now Available!
To those of you who have been clutching your various gadgets to your chests and bemoaning the lack of a digital version of your favorite publication - Maximum PC, of course: wait no longer, the day has come!

That's right, today we unveil our brand spankin' new digital version. Finally, you can have Maximum PC available where ever you are, where ever you go, for as long as your batteries will last! Now, granted, we've had a Nook version available for a little while now, but today's massive iOS 5.0 update (which includes Newsstand, a new application that allows users to subscribe to and download digital publications) helped us to increase our digital presence. All of Future's other publications, such as PC Gamer and Xbox mag, are also available and we're working on a Kindle version for an expected November release. That's just in time for the Kindle Fire.
Go, download it now (we'll wait) and then tell us how you like it in the comments!

Our November issue is currently available in the Apple Newsstand!

Please answer the questions out there about current subscribers to print edition. Can this be free or discounted for us, and can we transfer print to digital? Love the idea, but I prefer print. I like digital when I have that option, or when I am traveling and don't want to pack magazines. I don't want to pay for both though. Do like Wired and offer up for us loyal subscribers!!
Thanks

I used to subscribe to PCmag online and found that for all the time i spend in front of this 23' screen I just could not take the time to read a magazine on it, even with all the great links that took me right to the product etc. I prefer to be able to take my magazine and read it on the couch or wherever . It looks like hell on my NC if I can get it to load. I have not renewed my sub for PCM and I am pretty sure I wont for MPC for the same reason. Well MPC puts just about everything in the mag here on the www so why bother subscribing ?
get it on itunes? not bloody likely.

Those of you that are OK with this roll-out do not seem to understand that this magazine, and website are called Maximum PC (the PC is Wintel PC not the generic PC). Therefore, the coverage is mostly Wintel PCs not Macs, Linux, or other computers. More importantly, the readership expects this coverage.
Now as Mortal_M was trying to say, this is a slap in the face for the readers of Maximum PC. What do you think the reaction would be if they had released Mac|Life on the android and Windows Tablet (when there is one) and not on iOS? You think these comments are harsh!
So Future PLC, you may lose some subscribers due to this blunder. It would behoove you to listen to your editors (you did tell them that this was a mistake ... right?) and make sure you released it on a platform that matches the platform of your readers. It's not like there isn't one.
Oh, and rcoden, you are a looser. You think that because you have and iPod you are cool? Really??

"Those of you that are OK with this roll-out do not seem to understand that this magazine, and website are called Maximum PC (the PC is Wintel PC not the generic PC)."
Actually, having read every issue for about 2 years or so, I do understand that the magazine's coverage is pretty much all about Wintel machines. Some of us have multiple machines; My wife and I have an iPad, a Kindle, a Nook, an Android phone, and 3 Wintel machines in the house.
There is not an application for Windows right now that has the critical mass for magazine buying and reading that the iPad has with Newsstand (and the single magazine apps that preceded Newsstand). If there was, I'm sure that would have been the first distribution channel for Maximum PC. But a paying audience for magazines on a Wintel machine has just never developed like it has on the iPad. Right now, if you don't have your magazine on the iPad, you're losing a big potential audience.
By the way, the article mentions that they have had the magazine on the Nook platform for a while now. And you can use the Nook for PC application to read it on your PC. Just go here:
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Maximum-PC%2FFuture/e/2940000983942?itm=1&usri=maximum%2Bpc
In fact, if you go to that link, you'll notice that you can try the digital version on Nook for PC for free for 14 days- you don't even have to pay for it upfront! It's free!
So they didn't neglect the PC platform at all; they just put focus on an additional sales channel that happens to be the most popular platform for buying digital magazines right now.

IOS Install base ~250 Millions users
Higer profile delivery systems - Apple App Store
This is something that the Marketing wogs love, the writers have no say in these matters, just the money men.
Whine and wimper all you want, if they can get people on IOS to subscribe on a monthly basis, it fattens up their coffers.

I have both an iPad and a desktop PC, so I'm fine with this. I'd love to see my print sub cover my digital sub ala Wired and Vanity Fair, and the app does say this is coming eventually. Until then, then $1/month subscription is pretty nifty. I'll be happy to throw an extra buck for the great coverage I get.

Dear Max PC,
Please edit/update this article and include instructions to tell us how to get the Maximum PC Digital Edition on a PC or Android device.
Per other posters suggestions, I tried installing the Nook app on my android device, and I am still not able to find the Maximum PC Digital Edition in the Nook shop.
If this is truely available on the PC and Android, then please tell us how to get it.
Thanks

You can subscribe from there at $1.25 a month; you can even try it for free for 14 days!

Well, let's see. You go to barnesandnoble.com then then of all things, you search for MaximumPC in the search box.
You then must either hit the Enter key on your keyboard, or click the search button. Lo and behold, it shows up at the top of the pile. You then click on the magazine's picture. It then shows you that you can subscribe for $1.25 per month.
I would post the link directly, but that might set off some kind of filter and this wouldn't get posted.

Strange, If you go to www.barnesandnoble.com and search for it, it comes right up, but if you search for it via the Nook app on android, it does not show up at all.
I guess this is a bug of the android app?
Thanks for the help.
I still think it would have been easier on me (and apparently a few other people as well) if this information had been included in the original article.

when I searched for maximumpc in the android nook app on my acer iconia tab a500 tablet it pops right up, you have to be in the shop area of the app or you'll just be searching in your library. maximumtech also pops up but both mags are more than a dollar, they are like a $1.67 a month, still a good price but if you search hard enough you can get a standard paper edition subscription for less than ten bucks a year.

I applaud your advancement of the publication but in one way would have to agree with some of the others. It would be more useful to me if I could get a version for my pc based system. Granted we are already being afforded the free pdf's, but by the time that comes out I've already read the print mag cover to cover.
Perhaps in the future, subscribers could tack on a few ducats to their subscription and download an electronic version at the same time.
Something to consider perhaps.

I hope they don't stop it because there is something about watching something in print that makes it more apealing than watching it on a screen, like pictures, they look gorgeous on your pc, but once you print them out they come to life.
And yeah, the print quality of a magazine migth not be that great but I preffer to read from a magazine than from a screen, there is something about reading a magazine that no other device can beat (and I'm not an old guy who doesn't want to adapt to the new times)

Can I transfer my subscription to iPad or get it for free if I pay for the print version? For Wired because I pay for the print version I get the iPad version for free and I like reading mags on the iPad a lot.
PS Yes I love PC's but I like reading my mags on an iPad.

Get the Nook app for ANDROID or PC and stop whining. You people are so closed minded that it's funny. I've been using my nook app on my Android phone for ages and it's great for lots of magazines.
Also, this isn't your brother marrying your ex, it's a great magazine on iOS. If you'd get your heads out of the sand and check it out instead of falling for the fanboy/hateboy ignorance, you would realize iOS is a great platform.

Maybe you could release MaximumI or MaximumApple mag for them. After all, the title is MaximumPC. Should PC readers get a shot first or even android. I've been a fan since this MAG started, and I don't recall seeing how to build a MAC in any vol. I could be wrong, might have missed that issue being deployed some where. Blah, blah, blah kiddies. Get with the times. Money dictates what owns the market and the iPad is currently the king of mobile distribution. If you don't like it, go and rally and get all your friends, co-workers, etc. to buy something else. Once the number of those devices increases to where there is real market value, your Publishing companies will grant your wish. I have been a Maximum PC reader for six or more years and YES I have an iPad. Why, because unlike you, I know what is cool and I'm won't limit myself because some of you view something as cool or not. Guess what, it's already been decided, it's cool. Whining and bitching is not.

If the iPAd is the king as you put it, why is there an Amazon app? Also, I do not make my purchasing decisions based on what the cool toy of th eime is, but what best meets my needs, and an iPad does not cut it, as it blows chunks in the enterprise. SInce you are tossing around how long you have been a MaxPC reader, I can one up you, since I have been a subscriber and reader since Boot number 1, back in 1996. And it has not been decided, as this is a marathon, not a sprint (ask Palm), and when WIndows tablets hit the market, you will see their sales numbers rack up big gains, especially in the enterprise. So cut out the condescending attitude.

People who fall for what advertisers label as "cool" are the actually the ones who end up being the fool. I remember a time drinking and smoking was "cool" and now look... They ended up the fool paying big hospital bills. Not that the iPad will land you to a hospital, but it seems to make people dumb on the internet. They worship their electronics like they are Gods. If that is cool... Then consider me uncool. That boy is going to feel the sting when Windows 8 tablets are released.

This has been coming for a while now. I just hope that the add department can realize that those adds that pop up and make you wait or click to get rid of them, are so annoying and frustrating they make me want to leave this site. These adds are like picking up a billboard and smashing me in the face with it. Not a nice experience.

I use both platforms -- I never understood all this hate towards ios anything, it's just as idealogical and dumb as the apple-everything crowd.
Clearly what they did is choose the largest platform (or at least a very high profile one) to establish a presence, and they'll move into other platforms. I'm sure it'll be available in short time, and Ballmer will give you all woodies with his dancing until he's bathed in sweat from head to toe.
Carry on.

Becasue it is a closed system, Apple tells you what apps you can download to your device, and can pull the trigger at any time and kill an app you have downloaded just because, it blows chunks in the enterprise, even though Apple has marketed as an enterprise device (just try running citrix on it, or editing MS Office document sor PDF files, not going to happen without jumping through a whole lot of hoops). I have no problem with MaxPC releasing their digital edition for iOS, just hope they are working on an android and Windows version as well.

It sounds like the decision came from Future down to MaxPC. Future only cares about profits, not the actual content of the magazines; if they're going to make some of their magazines available on iOS they might as well make all of them that way. Who knows maybe some Mac cult member will read an issue and realize he could build his own computer instead of paying Apple through the nose for one :)

You know that each and every issue is going to be on Pirate Bay and Demonoid the same day it's released right?
