Mass Effect 2 Gets Late January Release Date
Posted 10/17/09 at 01:59:38 AM by Nathan Grayson

BioWare’s finally pegged Mass Effect 2 with a concrete release date and, well, early 2010’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Joining games like BioShock 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Max Payne 3, ME2 has relocated from the twilight of 2009 to the dawn of 2010. More specifically, the game’s dropping on January 26.
BioWare and EA have also decided to sweeten the pot with some particularly potent preorder bonuses. Preorder from GameStop and you’ll score two in-game items, the Terminus Armor and the M-90 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon. Or, if you put down money on ME2 at any other brick-and-mortar outlets, the Inferno Armor is yours to keep.
The one thing we can’t procure by preordering, though? More time. Dragon Age: Origins, BioWare’s latest 100-hour jaunt into the realm of swords ‘n’ sorcery, is coming out in November. With Mass Effect 2 now making landfall in January, that’s two BioWare RPGs within three months. What to do? Hmmm.
Guess we’ll just have to spend even more time playing videogames. What a shame.
Good time to be a PC gamer

It's been a lackluster year so far for gaming and I for one can't wait for the next few months. Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 2, Left for Dead 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and more. There are a LOT of good games coming out. Why does it seem to always be feast or famine in gaming? Oh well, I'm not going to complain. I'm just going to be glad to be a gamer right now and beef up my carpal tunnel coverage! ;)
P.S. Apparently there was some discussion about it running on Win 64 bit? Played the first one through 4 times on Vista 64bit with nary a hitch.
Defintely gonna pick it up

Defintely gonna pick it up but I'm not gonna preorder. People shouldn't be punished for not preordering. Give me the entire game.
yea about Crysis, I've

yea about Crysis, I've run-tested both 32bit and 64bit.
What I found is that if i run the 64bit, the loading time are much faster and the FPS improved drastically ! The only thing is that Punkbuster doesn't seem to work on 64bit version so I play 64bit for single player and 32bit for multiplayer.
Punkbuster has been updated

Punkbuster has been updated for Windows 7 and 64 bit platforms. You have to download the PBSetup.exe from evenbalance.com and update it manually. I've used Punkbuster on Windows 7 64 bit for months now with zero issues.

they have it so it plays on 64 bit operating systems. The original game is 32 bit only unless they come out with a patch.
32 bit on 64 bit OS

Aside from Crysis, every game (and most apps) on the market and coming to market are still 32 bit only with no 64 bit executable, and have no problems running on 64 bit Vista and 7. And it's probably not going to change until people stop loving XP.
Part of the whole Games for Windows certification includes running on 64 bit Windows, regardless of whether or not the game itself is 64 bit.
