Madden NFL 12 Rushes to Top of NPD's September Games List, Console Sales Sacked
NBA Commissioner David Stern, Executive Director of the National Basketball Player's Union Billy Hunter, and everyone else entrenched in negotiations with the NBA's next collective bargaining agreement should take note. After a lockout that lasted 136 days, the NFL approved a new deal and saved football's season, ensuring fan fallout would be kept to a minimum. As a result, Madden NFL 12 shot to the top of The NPD Group's list of best selling videogames in the month of December.
The entire top ten list for September 2011 looks like this:
- Madden NFL 12 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP)
- Gears of War 3 (Xbox 360)
- Dead Island (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
- FIFA Soccer 12 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP, 3DS)
- NHL 12 (Xbox 360, PS3)
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
- Resistance 3 (PS3)
- Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (Wii, DS, Xbox 360, 3DS, PS3, PSP, PC)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops (Xbox 360, PS3, DS, Wii, PC)
- Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
Sports games made up 30 percent of NPD's list of best sellers (paying attention, NBA?), and games in general jumped 4 percent after declining in each of the four previous months, according to NPD. This was offset by a 9 percent decline in console sales, which contributed to a 6 percent drop in overall game sales to $1.16 billion. The numbers are a little murky, however, as that also includes PC game sales, but doesn't take into account game downloads and online games.

I've never been a big sports games guy, but find myself glued to the TV every Sunday afternoon this season. Probably because our DETROIT LIONS are looking FEROCIOUS!!!
*high five* for taking a few shots at the NBA. I was a big follower last year. They really need to get their act together.
