Mad Catz Inks Deal to Produce Co-Branded Xbox 360 Headphones
Mad Catz, one of the biggest players in the third-party peripheral market, just scored a major win by convincing Microsoft to let it produce and sell audio headphones co-branded under Mat Catz's Tritton and Microsoft's Xbox 360 brands, Mad Catz announced (PDF).
Under terms of the deal, Mad Catz has the worldwide rights to manufacture, market, and sell licensed, co-branded wired stereo headphones and exclusive rights to produce licensed, co-branded wireless stereo and Dolly 5.1 headphones for the popular console. The new line of headphones will ship in time for the 2011 holiday shopping season, and incidentally, Mad Catz claims it will mark the first time that licensed and co-branded wireless cans will be available for the Xbox 360.

Mad Catz has produced a few nice products, and some crappy ones. Kinda 'Rosewill-ish'.
Their nice ones are nice. These might be nice.

I know Mad Catz has started to make some good stuff lately, I still have a hard time not associating Mad Catz with off brand junk. I hope they don't make crap head sets and just slap a Tritton sticker on them.

There is just something so very wrong about this entire situation:
"just scored a major win by convincing Microsoft to let it produce and sell audio headphones"
Things are way off kilter when one company can control whether another company sells a product or not.

Well sure, only that isn't exactly what Microsoft is doing here. The rest of that sentence, along with the title of the post, explains that MS has agreed to co-brand headphones with Mad Catz's Tritton brand. Third-party peripheral makers, of course, are allowed to design products for the Xbox 360 on their own.

Mad Catz will be making both wired and wireless headphones, not just wireless.
