Logitech Releases Rechargeable Remote
Forget about fumbling for batteries in your kitchen junk drawer once your remote loses its juice. If you owned Logitech's new Harmony 700, you could just plug it into the wall with the included adapter to bring it back to life. According to Logitech, the Harmony 700 can go several weeks between charges.
Other tricks include one-click activity buttons for tasks such as "Watch a DVD," a color LCD screen, support for more than 5,000 brands and over 225,000 devices, online setup so you don't have to punch in codes on the remote, and the ability to replace up to six other remotes.
Logitech is taking pre-orders for the $150 rechargeable Harmony, which the company says will ship this month.

Okay folks, so for those of you with a Harmony One, how is does this thing compare? What is missing or added? I am in the market for a "One" and weighing my options...

I've had a Logitech Harmony 880 rechargeable remote for years, got it when I got my HDTV, but, thing's aren't all that great... Hopefully they will change the charging system to something that plugs in instead of sits on top of charging contacts.
The Harmony 880 has been on the market for over 4 years, has a Litium Ion rechargeable battery, & far more options than the 700, but it's was also a lot more expensive, I bought mine for $270 IIRC. When it works, it's awesome, but to charge the battery, it just rests on top of a charging tray & doesn't always make good contact between the remote & the charger tray.

Personally, I'm happier using a set of rechargeable duracell double or triple-a batteries than relying on a (presumably) proprietary battery pack which will cost an arm and a leg to replace should it ever fail.

Mine (Harmony 880 Litium-Ion battery) is going strong after 4 years & would cost $30 to replace when it does fail. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about changing batteries, but the included battery life isn't all that good, I have to recharge the remote about once a month, & that's with extremely light usage.

I think we can all agree if you own a Harmony you own the best remote on the market bar none. I have owned two & I'm using a 880 currently & lovei t. They are so reliable, & easy to set up. Although my 880 is rechargable so I'm not sure whats so speacial here?

"Still, this is Logitech. I don't want my TV remote sucking up 30% of my PC's CPU resources."
The hell? This is a TV remote. It has nothing to do with your computer.
I suppose you find your blender is using too much of your car's gasoline every time it runs, too.

What are you talking about? Using up 30% of your CPU resources? It's a TV Remote. It uses an IR signal to control various devices... If you're talking about the Logitech Harmony app so you can set it up on your PC? It doesn't.

I'm pretty sure that was a joke. If you've ever used Logitech software that comes with thier mice and keyboards, it uses up alot of system resources.
