Logitech Announces G27 Racing Wheel for Die-Hard Fans, People with Too Much Money

Whether you lost your license for racking up too many points for speeding and reckless driving or just can't stand to be anywhere else other than behind the wheel, Logitech has you covered. The gaming peripheral company today announced the G27 Racing Wheel, which it says is "designed to deliver the definitive sim racing experience."

For three Benjamins, the G27 will have you gripping tight corners and feeling the road courtesy of a dual-motor force feedback mechanism. A hand-stitched leather wheel helps justify the cost of admission, as does a six-speed gated shifter complimented by a new LED RPM/shift indicator. Other features include steel-constructed gas, brake, and clutch pedals, and more programmable buttons than the G25.

Logitech says the G27 will be available in the U.S. and Europe sometime in September and will work with both PCs and the Playstation 3.

The main question I have is did they fix the cheap feel of the shifter that people complained about after buying the G25.

Personally after owning a G25 for about a year, I would say that it mimics the driving of my C6 Corvette very well with the exception of the "wobbley" gear shifter when in 6 speed mode. The pedals are like that of the Corvette and if the wheel itself was larger, it would be comparable to driving the vette.

I will stick with my G25 though. I don't need more buttons (though it would be nice) on the steering wheel or an RPM indicator. I already paid $190, I'm not paying another $300 for it.

avatarFinally!

One of the worst kept secrets in the sim racing community is FINALLY revealed. The G27 looks to fix some of the faults that the G25 had (e.g. extra buttons on the sterring wheel). Assuming this thing is readily available, then it should sell well, as one of the G25/G27's main competitors, Fanatec has been inept at actually delivering its wheel that is in this price range, as it appears they under estimated the demand for their product.

that would be a great purchase, but only if it were $200 or less...

I would only buy this if it's $100 or less. These things never work well enough (slow to respond) or they break easily.

I've used the G25.  It'll never be like driving a car, and the clutch isn't the most realistic, but it's the best at this price point.
