Lich King Bears All for Free

Move over Crysis; the Lich King’s handing out golden tickets to his chocolate factory too, and frankly, he doesn’t think you have what it takes to oppose him. Why? Simple. Like you, Mr. Wars, the Lich King is abandoning his porch rocking-chair and his shotgun for 10 days, but he’s instancing this thing. None of your “ending on December 29th” bullsh**t. Plus, can your players do things like:
“Explore the frozen wastes of Northrend, wield the necromantic powers of the new death knight Hero class, take control of massive siege vehicles in the new open-world PvP zone of Wintergrasp, and much more”?
Didn’t think so.
Oh, sure, potential trial-takers will need both WoW and WoW: Burning Crusade -- as well as seasoned characters who no longer dive behind nearby bushes when a bright ring of light DINGs around them after a tough battle – in order to access much of WotLK’s content. But really, who doesn’t have a few level 70’s gathering dust in the back of their pantry?
Need further proof of your trial’s inferiority, Crysis? Just check out our comments section, wherein players will surely say whether or not they’ll be partaking of this free Wrath of the Lich King trial. Really, Crysis, we’re sorry it had to come to this.

Wow isnt a bad game. It may not have amazing amazing graphics, but its graphics dont completely suck. It may not utilize your gtx280 to its fullest extent, but you can also run it on your moms laptop. It costs 10$ a month, but they release content frequently. If wow really was a crappy game as everyone said, it wouldnt be where it is. Wow is fun, it offers you the chance to do things you wouldnt do normally, and you get to do them with your friends. Also the diversity of things you can do is amazing. There are always things to do when you log on, whether there is one other person in your guild or 100.
As for why they're having a trial, i think they just want the 70s that quit after sitting around at 70 for a while to come back. An offer to try LK free for 10 days wouldnt sound to bad to me if i had a couple 70s that i didnt play anymore.

Its actually $15 a month in the US or averages out to $13 a month if you buy the 6 month plan, which is the highest they currently offer in the US.
Another thing-
I was talking to some old guildies from eq about a month ago about how little raid content there is currently and he made an interesting comment that if soe had done that players would be complaining about them releasing an unfinished expansion. =P From his perspective, its not "new" content they're adding, but stuff that should've been there from release and I can see his point. Its an interesting difference between the two communities' levels of expectation.

I agree MMORPG isn't for the folks that don't have a couple of hours every evening to play especially if you desire to be at the top. What I will say that it is managable. My children go to bed at 8 sharp, the wife and I log on to raid 4 nights a week at 8:30 and usually finish around 11. We don't watch TV. We spend every waking minute with our children when they are home with us. That all being said when new levels come out we do usually lag behind the rest of our guild to get up to par. But thats how you manage it with kids and still do the right thing IMO.
Reason why WOW is worried and doing this isn't to expand, its to stop the loss. Did you notice that the new Everquest II expansion cracked into the top 15 PC game sales for November? SOE (EQII's owner) says that retail was less than 30% of total sales of that expansion. The fact that most of the expansion packs where bought digitally online though SOE store says that its expansion is probably seriously cutting into the WoW marketshare.

good for you. some parents just dont do that, and thats what gets on my nerves about it. blizzard does have a reason to be worried, if theres more people out there like me, eq is the only alternative. to me, if i had to choose any of them it would be eq, the community seems much more tolerable. and i think they have cooler classes lol. *fires up my necromancer*
but hence, i usually end up playing single player rpg's or fps, since the only time i really do get to play is on my days off when my kids are sleepin.

When you don't have the chance to have a life...like being in Iraq either fixing helicopters or sitting in a 9x9 box with a roommate...WoW is actually a pretty good game to kill a year of being at "war".
Game prefrence is really based on the ammount of time that you are either willing or not willing to put into a game. If you have time...you play Warcraft...if you don't you play games like Crysis or CoD4 where you can save your place and come back anytime and not miss out on anything.
Anyone that actually plays warcraft hates it when Blizzard gives out more free trials. All a free trial does is give free access to all those gold spam websites to get in the game and piss everyone off with their endless gold spamming.

its not a free trial to try the game, its a free trial for WotLK. Meaning youd already have to have the original and BC and a level 68+ to even use any of the content the free trial offers, all it does is let you try northrend for free.

You only need a 55 character to create a death knight in the trial. Granted they start out at 55 and wouldn't survive in Northrend till 68, but you do get to try out a new class for a bit in a new backyard just for them. Also, you can go to Northrend any level(including Dalaran if you can get a port/summon), just setting foot outside the safe areas under 68 will prolly get you killed quickly. And Dalaran's supposed to have a ton of achievements and other things to see, just inside the city itself.

true but i was replying to a comment about gold sellers using trials to make free accounts so they can spam gold sales ads, which this trial will not allow them to do

I didn't get a GTX 280 to play WOW for a few days. Crysis ftw!
And Nathan, what's with all the Crysis hate? Looks like everyone here's for Crysis.

I'm just messing around. 95% of the time, I'm just messing around. I think Crysis and WoW are both great games. But games are about having fun, so why not have a little fun while writing about them?

I haven't played WOW in the last 2 years or so I think. It seems that even a casual WOW'er is a hard-core anything else. But this is a free-trial thing, so ok, I'm downloading it... I'm just going to get on and see if any friends are still playing... Visit Aggramar once again... Then I'll let the trial expire. I have so many things going for me now - school, girlfriend... Well ok, maybe just two things, but there's not room for WOW and much else.
Unless I get HER to do the trial too. Hmm...

Well as a parent of three kids I really don't know how anyone that has even one kiddie laying around has time to play wow. I like games like Crysis because I can play it for a few hours today and then I might get a chance in a few days to play for another hour or so. Wow and other MMO's just require too much time and effort that frankly I don't have to give. It's good that none of the MMO's have really been anything too interesting for me. I'm a FPS and RTS kind of guy.

i dont know why ive come to dislike WoW so much, perhaps the concept of paying $10 a month to basically have no life, or that fact that the community usually sucks and in the end, the raids seem not worth the trouble of putting up with idiots.
i dont know. either way id take crysis over wow anyday.
*puts up OMGZ I KNOW SO MANY COOL PEOPLE ON WOW flame shield*
