If he could just walk in and slap the "MORE CORES!" engineers and whoever wrote the awful 11.8 Catalyst drivers that defaulted my video card to running at 85 degrees celcius, I'd say it would be an improvement.

Grew the company to the 3rd largest pc seller in the world for one (12.2% just behind Dells 12.8% share), also largest seller in China (34% share) Japan (26%) number 1 in corporate sales in India (70% share) drove Dell and Acer out of that market, is moving into Germany and set to move into teh UK as well (consumer markets, as they are already in enterprise market). Only PC company to experience double digit growth last quarter also of 24%. That's the magic he and his team worked.

I wonder where you got that info. As per Wikip:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenovo

In 1996, Lenovo was China's top-selling computer brand. The market share of Lenovo was the highest place in China for 6 years.

In 1999, Lenovo PC sales volume was honored at the top of the Asia-Pacific market with an 8.5% market share.

On 10 August 2006, Lenovo announced large profits in the first quarter in 2006. Net profit during this period achieved HKD $3.57 billion. This was Lenovo's first quarterly financial report after they bought IBM'S global PC business.

That was way before Rory joined. From what I read he has been there last 5 years. So I would credit him for maybe last 4 years of progress... not for something the company achieved 15 years ago.

btw : I could care less about him but I am in midst of getting my lenovo piece of crap repaired since last 1 month and their service/system is crap. They have a different phone # for their high end thinkpad product line where I have no doubt the service may be better. Any company stupid enough to do that sucks IMO. Many consumers like myself need a low end laptop for letting kids watch movies, etc but they also buy high end product. My first and only lenovo will prevent me from dealing with them again. I will galdly pay more for dell/asus/samsung/acer products.

@Win7fanboi: I do believe that wikipedia also lists about half of the world's population as nazis and ass clowns, so just remember where you are getting your info.  I've had good luck with Lenovo products, sorry to hear about your problem.

Go Rory Read! If he can do the kind of work at AMD he did at Lenovo, Intel might finally have some competition on its hands.

Will be interesting to see if he can work the same magic at AMD.
