Leaked Roadmap Points to Upcoming Intel SSDs
Intel is having a bear of a time keeping its future product releases under wraps. Earlier this month a leaked slide provided some basic details about Intel's upcoming Sandy Bridge-E platform, followed by another slide that went into a little more detail about clockspeeds and cache sizes. Now yet another internal slide has slipped through the back door, this one detailing Intel's upcoming SSD plans up through the end of this year.
Engadget didn't say how or where it obtained the slide (click image to enlarge), nor does it really matter at this point because it's been posted for all the world to see. Here's what Intel has in store for the rest of 2011.
Intel plans to replace the X25-E with its upcoming Lyndonville 710 SSDs, which will be made available later this quarter in 100GB, 200GB, and 400GB capacities. These drives will sport a SATA 3Gbps interface and come built with 25nm MLC NAND flash memory chips in a 2.5-inch package.
Later on in Q3, Intel will flesh out its 700 series with Ramsdale 720. Likely aimed at the enterprise and high-end crowd, the 720 series will ship in 200GB and 400GB capacities, use 34nm SLC memory, and boast a PCI-E 6Gbps interface.
Also in Q3, Intel will update its value oriented SSDs with the introduction of 3xx Larsen Creek. This will initially be available in 20GB capacity, use 34nm SLC memory, and come in both SATA and mSATA 3Gbps flavors.
Finally, Q4 is when Intel will release its 3xy Paint Creek SSDs in 40GB and 80GB capacities (MLC memory, mSATA 3Gbps), and 520 Cherryville in 64GB, 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB (MLC memory, 2.5-inch, SATA 6Gbps).
