Leaked Pics of Fermi-Rendered Images Look Awesome *Update*
We're hoping for great things out of Nvidia's upcoming "Fermi" graphics chips, and we can only hope the leaked pics showcasing what the GPU can do turn out to be legit.
The pics come courtesy of Chinese website PCZilla and show a pair of human face renderings like nothing we've ever seen before, at least not on the desktop. There's so much detail the images could pass as real photos, but let's hope they're not.
There's also an image of a ray-traced demo that may not look as impressive at first glance, at least until taking in the various lighting sources and reflections, which requires a second and third look to fully appreciate.Take a peek at all three here.
Update: These scenes are actually taken from a promotional video for Playground Festival -- an AudioArts/Motion Graphics event in the Netherlands. We're not sure if Fermi is actually rendering these scenes in real-time (and even so, it's still texture mapping, and not ray-tracing), or if Nvidia was just using screenshots from the source video to demonstrate the promise of Fermi. (Thanks, Andy!)

once the article mentioned photography it definitely took a lot of charm out of the notion that this was an example of a 100% computer-rendered model. I dont know how they used flashlights to light the subject.. Maybe to help with texture-mapping? I figured the photographer would have to flood the subject with light and they were using a 3d rendered model sculpted precisely to the fighter's proportions. Light on skin is difficult to get to look natural so in the sense of lighting, this is still amazing... if they actually used computer generated lighting is what I'm assuming however.

SORRY TO DISAPPOINT NVIDIA FANBOYS BUT THESE ARE FAKE, PROOF HERE - http://www.onesize.nl/projects/playgrounds-titles-2009
AND FOR PAUL LILLY WHY ARE YOU SAYING THIS ::"We're not sure if Fermi is actually rendering these scenes in
real-time (and even so, it's still texture mapping, and not
ray-tracing), or if Nvidia was just using screenshots from the source video to demonstrate the promise of Fermi."::WHEN IN FACT THE CREDITS IN THE LINK PROVE THAT THESE ARE WAX SCULPTURES AND ONLY THE SWEAT, BLOOD, AND 3D VISUALS ARE ADDED THE ONES THAT ARE RENDERED?
IN ADDITION THE LINKS PROVE THAT THIS STUFF WAS MADE BACK IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR, MEANING THAT FERMI COULD HAVE NEVER BEEN USED BECAUSE IN AUGUST FERMI DIDN'T EVEN EXISTED,
SO PLEASE RE-EDIT YOUR "UPDATE" AND SAY THAT THIS IS TOTALLY FAKE BECAUSE OTHERWISE THIS WOULD BE SEEN AS YOU BEING IGNORANT OR EVEN BIASED...
THANK YOU AND NO PUN INTENDED.....

Hey Biceps last time I checked this was not a fuc.king english grammar forum so why are you all fixated with my grammar when my comment is self-explanatory?
As far as the caps lock, well lets say that thats just to catch the reader's attention because I think that this article is misleading and the author does nothing to correct his multiple errors in the article, let alone take a look at all the feedback that users are giving him and consider it.
by the way I have another link for the third so-called "Rendered" picture which is this one
http://www.yatzer.com/feed_1945_the_sorte_house_by_a.l.x
it turns out that this was taken from an architecture that was built in June 2008 in Tokyo, and yet as of today no official word from Nvidia as to totally dismiss or confirm these pics as real, that alone raises many questions over the authenticity of this "leak"..
but apparently this is not important for u because my grammar is not correct, lol what a dum.bass... and please feel free and try to find any mistakes in my grammar ass.hole..

FERMI DIDN'T EVEN EXISTED,
Please remove the comma, and fix your sentence. Fermi didn't even exist. Didn't could also be put as "Did not."
Oh, and please, no caps. They make you look obnoxious.

Why are you keying in on grammer? When what he is saying is absolutely true. This is either a hoax by an unscrupulous FANBOY, an out of work journalist trying to make a comeback, or a clandestine smoke screen by nVidia to hide the fact that their shit is pretty ragged and they stilll don't have a product that works let alone being close to shipping.
The bottom line here is, nvidia gets free FALSE publicity. We all know that for fear of a big boy comeback none of the "news sources" or publishers that got taken in will make an out and out retraction. in in any case the retraction/truth will be buried so that very few will see the true story.
At the very least there arre a bunch of news hacks so keen for a redemptive story about how great nVidia is that they jump at any thing verified or not. If anyone is truely interested in facts go to the original artists post here:

A rendered still image I beleive....but what is so impressive about that? I thought it was supposed to be an artist created image but the update shows that it is not.

I wont be impressed with fermi unless it costs less and is atleast as powerful (maybe more) as the ATI beast.

I told Norm about this but those stills are from a title sequence made for a festival by a Dutch production company using photo stills 3d mapped. They are proccesed and composited like a texture not raytraced or rendered. Link: http://motionographer.com/2009/10/14/onesize-playground-fest-main-titles/

It looks nice, but I'll hold my excitement for when they say whether or not it is real time. It doesn't matter how nice it looks if it takes all day to render one frame...
