Latest Apple Tablet Rumor Claims a November Launch
Posted 08/04/09 at 10:22:54 AM by Paul Lilly
Rumors of an Apple tablet have been swirling since at least mid-2001 when Kevin Fox, a user experience designer for Google, posted a blog predicting the release of the iPad. That never came to fruition, but it wouldn't be the last time 'Apple' and 'tablet' would be muttered in the same breath (see Mac Life's The History of the Apple Tablet Rumor for a detailed timeline).
Fast forward 8 years and it appears the Apple tablet may finally be on the verge of release. An anonymous source (not ours) claims to have held a prototype and says Apple will have a final design ready in the next six weeks, which could be announced in September for release in November, just in time for the holiday rush. Or so says Barron's, part of The Wall Street Journal.
Barron's speculates the device could retail for $700 to $800, which sounds about right for an Apple-branded tablet. And according to Jon Peddie, head of Jon Peddie Research, look for gaming functionality to be a "big part of what this is about." Maybe it'll play Duke Nukem: Forever.

Apple is only 5 years late developing a tablet......OH WAIT OMG IT HAS A MULTITOUCH SCREEN I JUST MOVED LIMEWIRE ACCROSS THE SCREEN WHE NOT GETTING TROJANS FROM THAT NEW SICK FRESH MP3/DMG WHATEVER IT IS I WAS DOWNLOADING.......basically all caps lock aside apple isnt a bad company they make a good product its the people who use them that is the problem. Seriously it gets really old after a while of people thinking they are better than you because they have an iphone.
Interesting

This might be kind of interesting if it's real. I would hope that there would be a docking station of some sort so you're not always forced to use the touch screen. The $700 - $800 price tag seems possible but not likely. Also, I'd be curious to see how they'd solve the cooling issues they've had with the MacBook Air and recently with some of the iPhones, as I'm assuming they'd try to go with the sleek "one piece" design.

just a few weeks ago a company called techcrunch which was also featured here on MaxPC. they did a press relese of an up and coming device exactly like this but better in my opionion and it was only rumered to cost $300.00 i think i will take that over a blot filled POS that Apple will release for 1000x the price of what it really costs.
if you want to know about the crunch pad check it out here:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/04/10/about-those-new-crunchpad-pictures/
also a little searching on youtube or even the companies website will show you the press release as well as a working demo of the unit, where apple is just showing Photoshoped images of Crap.

Read comments on anything Apple related to be entertained by the fanboys, flamers, and trolls alike!
Gauranteed.
They ought to stop reporting

They ought to stop reporting on OS altogether, quite a tussle with the whole Can Windows 7 Fix MS Tarnished Image article, seriously, can't people grow up and realized both are good for their respective users?

I love it, voice your opinion for or against something and you fall in to 1 of 2 categories... Troll of Fanboy!
But then there are those that use the excuse "Well, I have one or both so therefore, I'm not a fanboy!" or "I've used it, so... I'm not a fanboy!"

Gaming functionality? no way!!!
Submitted by Scapegoat on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 7:56am
Ok, considering tablet PCs generally cost more than their equally speced nontablet bretheren, I can't see this thing going for as little as $700 or $800. And with gaming possibilities?!? No way!!
Not to sound patronizing,

Not to sound patronizing, but people use computers for other things other than gaming. Plus this is good for all those graphic artists.
It's stated in the article

It's stated in the article that gaming is going to be a big part. UNless they mean web games and solitare, I don't think we'll be seeing much gaming on a tablet. And about the price point... First off, it's an iProduct, so $700-$800 sounds about right? Hardly, Maybe add a 1 to the front of those numbers and that'll be a little more resonable for an iProduct (let alone a tablet)

Mea culpa for not reading the article all the way through, but anyway, gaming on a tablet is a joke regardless as you stated.
I still don't believe it

I just can't see Apple making a tablet. Who uses tablets anyways and what would be the difference from an iphone or an ipod touch?
You can already use your iphone basically like a computer. What the hell would anyone use this for?!
I mean how many people out there need a tablet? Or 'think' they need a tablet?
It will stay a rumor! There is no way this will come true. It will be just big enough to where you don't really want to take it around. And small enough to where you might as well just use an iphone or a computer.
NOT HAPPENING!
i want one
Submitted by blindhorizon on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 11:51am
i commented above on something else. but i woulden't mind having a tablet like it but the other one i mentioned above.
i'm not a hard core gamer i have a Lanbox for that, this would be nice for like a coffee table item, general web surfing, maybe a little myspace/facebook, great if a friend/guest comes to your house and wants to check their email and you dont want them on your personal computer, or hell give it a magnatic back and stick it to the fridge and use if for a memo or message board. the ideas i could come up with something this simple is limitless.
plus would you rather give your 7-15 yoard old kid a $1000 laptop that can get infected with spyware/malware or viruses, these kinds of things will almost be bullet proof from that kind of web crop
ummm so your saying you'd

There are two kinds of people, those that use tablets, and those that are clueless. Unless this is a convertable though, it's not worth it.

I'm guessing you haven't either.
Hate using a keyboard to edit spreadsheet? That touch screen must be nice to enter functions. But since it has a bigger screen it will be so much more helpful! Here is my 800 dollars Apple! Thanks for the bigger screen so I can now edit spreadsheets!
Idiot.
