For those of you that are looking to carry around every piece of information that you might ever need (and most of your family photos) around with you in your pocket, Kingston has got the thumb drive for you.

With the recent introduction of their 256GB thumb drive, you’ll be able to take a plethora of files around with you everywhere you go. The drive itself packs a transfer speed of up to 20MB/sec and a read speed of 10MB/sec. And, if you’re using Vista, it also supports Windows ReadyBoost.

Though, this beast is only available in Europe and the UK for a whopping £565.67 ($931.60) upon custom order.

sweet ultra mobile pc..load a usb os on there and all your programs and you just need some cheap hardware, and save money on a hdd and buying an os...this is of course ignoring the lower read/write number that thumb drives have than hdds...but i dont know how they compare to SSDs

avatarWhy 256 GB?

I think this is just a bit much. If 32 or 64 GB aren't enough, why don't you buy a laptop? If anyone does use it for Windows Readyboost, that's A LOT of RAM.

avatarI would get it, if I could afford it :)

You cant carry a laptop everywere... I'm still in highschool but I do a lot of work on the computers there, and you need special permision to use a laptop, so why would I?  One of these and I can carry movies for my free time, schoolwork, portible programs etc...

avatarI guess my question is...

I guess my question is... Why NOT 256gb?  The computer industry is alway about bigger.. yet smaller... and faster.  This is just the natural evolution of that ideal, if Kingston didn't do it one of their competitors would have so they are going to be the one.  Sure, its a PR stunt, but I bet in 6 years these will be in the basket by the register at your favorite computer mega mart for $15.
