A patent should expire within a reasonable time (like 1 year) from the point the patent holder either never starts to, or stops, producing a tangible product upon which the patent is based. They were supposed to protect actual physical things made by someone from being copied by someone else, not to be 'banked' away for later cash cow profit mongering by those who never produce any real products.

If I was presiding over cases like this I would fine the patent troll and throw them out with a big fat "F**K YOU" post-it note on their face.

Its time to end patent law.  Sorry. It's broken.

I have an idea: Patent patent trolling. Sue people who patent troll for patent infringement and demand exorbitant licensing fees. That should balance things out.

Then someone would just patent patent patent trolling.

The only thing faster than a patent troll is a forum troll.

Amazon to Acacia Research: "That's not a touchscreen at all. We call that our Tactile Sensory Interface or TSI. Sorry, not a touchscreen".

"Icons? What icons? No, no... those are Graphitic Logograms. Something else entirely".

I would not be surprized if Apple is next to file a lawsuit against Amazon. Because only Apple is allowed to make smartphones, MP3 Players, and tablets. Afterall, they invented the entire computer industry and everyone is a copycat that deserves to be sued. It makes me sick just how these companies run in America. Greed is everywhere. I hope these Patent Trolls just burn in hell. They are stopping America from producing the latest technology. If anything, patents should not exist at all. If you can't hurry the hell up with your said product, then you deserve to have your ideas stolen. Technology needs to just move fast.

I would respectively disagree with you on that point. I think that the patent system is broken and needs to be fixed. Over the years, patents have gotten out of hand. Ever heard of the Monsanto Corporation? Because apparently, you can patent genetically modifed seeds (GMO) and other twisted and bizzare things. Somewhere along the way, we lost the idea of "patenting ideas" and went straight to this mess.

The thing that gets me is why the hell these patents even get approved in the first place. USA is suppose to be anti-monopoly, but yet it seems the patent holders run the business world and how technology should progress. They should just do away with the patent system because it no longer serves its primary purpose. People went greedy, and they stopped innovation long ago... You know, for licenses.

It should be illegal to hold a patent for no reason but to sue over it.
