Kindle 2 Price Slashed by $60

Patience isn't just a virtue, it's also a way to save a few bucks. And if you were in the market for a Kindle 2 eBook reader but talked yourself into waiting until the right time presented itself, that patience pays off today in the form of a $60 price break.
Just five months after launch, Amazon has slashed the price of the Kindle 2 to $299 with free shipping, just barely nudging under the $300 mark. Already a hot seller, the new price point could put Amazon in a position to fend off the competition in a market that continues to heat up. Or maybe Amazon's just looking to move as many units as possible before the rumored Kindle 3 shows up.

Didn't drop enough

I'm pretty impressed with the kindle, and I've been on the sidelines waiting to buy for a while, but a $60 price drop isn't enough to me. I suspect others may agree: $300 is a lot of money for the middle class to buy a gadget that can do what can mostly be done for free after a short trip to the friendly neighborhood library...
My gut feeling is that I'll buy it when it gets down to $150 - about half of its current price. And I don't even know if THAT is a rational decision... but I love reading, and these days more and more of my reading is on the internet - the eye strain and bad posture in front of my computer just may be enough to push me into ownership of something I can curl up on the couch with...(laptop doesn't cut it)
