Justin Long: I'm a Mac Ads "Might be Done"
The war between Macs and PCs (as in, Windows-based) is far from over, but the battle tactics might be shifting, at least on Apple's end. According to an interview with Justin Long, the actor who portrays a Mac in the "Get a Mac" ads, Apple might be ending the famed advertising campaign.
"You know, I think they might be done," Long told the Onion's A.V. Club. "In fact, I heard from John [Hodgman], I think they're going to move on -- I can't say definitively -- which is sad, because not only am I going to miss doing them, but also working with John. I've become very close with him, and he's one of my dearest, greatest friends. It was so much fun to go do that job, because there's not a lot to it for me. A lot of it is just keeping myself entertained between takes, and there's no one I'd rather do it with than John."
It should be noted that Apple hasn't made any official statement regarding an ad campaign that first started back in 2006, so it's entirely possible that more "Get a Mac" ads are in the pipeline. But if they are finished, the question is, will they be missed?

I got the Thirtieth Comment... Ha ha ha ha ha............ Awesome. That's all I had to say. I'm just really really happy there aren't going to be any more sucky Mac Vs PC Commercials where the PC loses. We all know in real life PC wins every freaking time.

now with macs and pc's more alike than different, isn't it time to make peace and join together against the real threat of consoles?

Name 5 console games that can be played on a mac? Yeah, I thought so.

Boot Camp software, dual boot a mac with a Mac OS and Windows.
Yeah, there's the threat: Macs can run windows! As for the list of 5 games... take your pick at any PC game that is also on a console. You know, that list that is in reality to big to count.
Yeah, I thought so.

I'm a total MS fanboy, and I can tell you that I've loved those ads over the years. They did a terrific job of making fun of Windows, and I had a ton of laughs. I have no idea how accurate they were as it pertains to Macs, because I don't know much about Macs. But they were spot on for Windows. I always looked forward to the next round of ads as they were released. I don't know why they would want to stop now, there's no shortage of things to make fun of. I'm sure they could squeeze another couple of years out of them. It's true that Windows is full of headaches -- I love it in spite of its flaws, and that's not going to change anytime soon. I love my kids too, and they are far bigger pains in the arses than Windows!

As a Devils Advocate I will say those Ads were far better than the Microsoft Ads. I mean Microsoft should have been retaliative towards Apple in the same fashion as the Apple Commercials. Like I'm a PC and Mac just plain sucks.. See that would be funny. Or have the Mac guy take a healthy crap on the Mac Guy.. Very very funny. But MS ruined it. Or the PC guy could have gotten pissed off at the Mac guy and took out a baseball bat and beet the mac guy up with it. Or even a Taser.

Even Apple realized those commercials are just getting annoying. In any case, I think Apple will generally start to lose interest in heavily promoting its OS X based machines. Not nearly enough profit.
Why bother with traditional computers when the mobile market is so potentially lucrative? Steve Jobs' wet dream = the entire world on Apple mobile devices. Annual replacement required and several different ways for Apple to bleed money out of consumers during the life of the product.

Give credit where credit is due. Advertisements aren't designed to be fair, they're designed to sell. I think these did just that. Besides, I got a good laugh from them and more often than not agreed with them. You guys take the Apple vs. Pc thing far too seriously.

Out with a whimper. That's the Apple way. No worries, seeing how these ads just haven't had the same impact since Microsoft's "Laptop Hunters" debuted, and went a long way towards opening the general public's eyes to how ridiculously overpriced Macs are.
