Apple needs to be sucked under the ground. No really.

If there's serious patent infringement going on, then I can understand. The fact of the matter is, Apple is scraping the bottom of the barrel to drum up the most insignificant of similarities in an effort to maintain their monopoly. They may manufacture decent enough products, but their overall business practice makes me want to vomit, preferably all over one of their devices.

I especially like how the judge "changed her mind" on the issue. Like we don't know what really happened.

avatar

510Gamer

So Apple convinced a judge that a similar algorithm for a quick search feature on the Nexus was enough to stop its sale...Maybe the judge should fucking open her eyes so she can realize that the difference in market numbers would never be attributed to such a trivial feature..

avatar

xXSINS OF WARXx

Seriously Apple? I think these patent lawsuits are getting out of hand. Call me crazy but at this rate it won’t be long before some big corporation patents a “product” that somehow mixes into the atmosphere and starts to sue or charge everyone for breathing air because you’re using their “product”.

Monsanto bioengineered seeds anyone?

avatar

warptek2010

So what? Change one or two things, call it something else and sell the shit out of it. What are you waiting for, Samsung?

avatar

SPreston2001

This is the very reason I cant stand crApple!! This patent crap is really getting out of hand!

avatar

aarcane

I'm invoking Godwins Law. Hitler was a patent troll!

avatar

maxeeemum

I believe it's the newly appointed judge who is the problem. Judge Lucy H. Koh was involved in the Samsung Tablet ban in which she 1st ruled that didn't violate any Apple patients then she change her mind under pressure of an appeals court.

It also appears she has other questionable decisions.

But of course it's a California court and I don't think one person should be allowed to ban a product in the entire US.

Our judicial system is really going downhill. Just my opinion!

avatar

sdcat

Apple and the companies out there taught us a very good lesson. If we got any idea, we gota patent it so later on we could all be patent troll. All we got to do were sue and collect.

Law is plain and simple, this sure contradict(kind of) what I wrote above.

avatar

Ryuka21

I can't wait until this happens to apples and has a HUGE part of their supply chain limited. can you imagine the iphone 5 being denied from being sold in the us because of patent infringement on a samsung, motorola or htc patent. though if they infringed on a samsung patent that would be so icing on the cake.

avatar

big_montana

I do not know why Google does not sue Apple over the notification bar. Same reasoning behind Apple's suit as it i similar. And to compare Apples market share lost to Samsungs gain is bs, as the judge should have looked at Androids gain overall, even WP7 and BB loss too as an explanation for Apple loss and Sammy's gain. Anyone buying an Android phone would not consider an i product as they do not want to be locked into a closed paid ecosystem, as they want their apps free, larger screens, and the ability to load what they want to without the threat of Apple flipping the kill switch on you.

avatar

SPreston2001

I think the reason Google hasnt sued Apple has something to do with Android being open sourced...

avatar

HRJoey

Android(the OS) is under apache 2.0 license. The Kernel is under GPLv2. Google has patents for the notification and a few other Android related things.

avatar

Jaeger_CDN

Considering that alot of the components inside Apple products come from Samsung it could happen especially if this case doesn't get over turned. If Samsung is locked out of the US market then they have nothing really to lose by limiting parts for Apple products.

avatar

aarcane

I wish I could get a hearing with this judge to present some testimony. Something akin to:
"As an american citizen, I want little more than to purchase these quality Samsung products that apple wishes so greatly to ban. As an educated, informed citizen I would NEVER consider buying an apple product, and I know several people who would NEVER consider buying a Samsung product, and NOBODY who is torn between the two. As such, it's obvious that these two products are NOT seriously competing, and it's clear that that this ban on sales only serves to harm the american citizens, whom you are sworn to protect. Please do the right thing here, and find in favor of the people of this great nation!"

avatar

damicatz

This is exactly the reason patents and other sorts of "imaginary property" need to be eliminated.

Can anyone seriously, with a straight face, say that patents are benefiting society? It seems to be that the shysters are the only ones it benefits. By what right do you use violence to claim ownership over an idea?

Apple's "patents" are absurdly simple. Slide to unlock is NOT an invention. Search is NOT an invention. Apple is essentially trying to claim ownership over a search bar that searches more than location (e.g data on your phone and on the web). Like say, the Vista start menu. Or the Omnibar in Chrome. Or Google Desktop Search.

Steve Jobs may have kicked the bucket but Apple is still despicable.

avatar

sundropdrinker3

As much as I despise Apple and their tactics and way of thinking, I have to point out your flaws.

Patents are not meant to benefit society. They are meant to benefit the person/company who came up with the invention. People/companies spend money to develop their idea/s into a working model, and the patent is supposed to ensure that they are able to be the only ones able to benefit monetarily from said patent for a set amount of time to recoup the money spent and to hopefully make a profit. Inventions may or may benefit society, but patents are not ever going to, as that is not the purpose of a patent.

Apple's patents may be absurdly simple, but they are still patents. The "slide to unlock" IS an invention, as SOMEONE or SOMETHING came up with the idea and developed it. Search is not an invention, but the CODE for it IS, which is what this is supposedly about.

It's the absurd patents like the shape of a computer case, especially laptop, that are truly undermining the importance of patents.

Learn to actually think before you speak, you will be a better human being for it.

avatar

aarcane

Patents are meant to encourage innovation, rather than stifle it. What they're doing now is Stifling it. There are numerous accounts of companies refusing to innovate for fear of patent lawsuits. Ultimately, Innovation is intended to help the american peoples, and therefore patents are supposed to as well. So long as patents are being misused and abused as they are, all the peoples of our nation are suffering because of it.

avatar

sundropdrinker3

Sorry, but no. The intent of patents is not to encourage innovation. It's so people can be paid for the work that they did. People wanting to make money is what encourages innovation, as they can then patent their "innovation" and get paid for it for a certain amount of years.

As to companies afraid to innovate, that is absolutely false. If it were true then why do we keep hearing of all this new technology? Why are there new medicines? New cars? Some companies may be afraid to innovate, but most of them appear to not be afraid.

I also love how you say that "Ultimately, Innovation is intended to help the american peoples, and therefore patents are supposed to as well." So, just us Americans, huh? And again, innovation and patents are not intended to help society. They are intended to help the person who innovated get paid. Being a benefit to society may or may not be a side effect.

The only Apple product I ever really enjoyed using was the Apple IIe that were in my schools computer lab as a kid. Back then Apple was the wimpy kid being bullied by IBM and the PC crowd but lately it seems like now they have enough loose change to purchase Cuba they've decided to fight back with as many dirty tricks they can think of.

avatar

ThomasLG

I'll bet the judge has an iPhone. The Apple Kool-Aid drinkers are a determined (if misguided) bunch!

avatar

Engelsstaub

Stop repeating some stupid nonsensical mantra you read on the internet a million times. If Apple users were Kool-Aid drinkers they'd all be dead, wouldn't they? Or do you even know who Jim Joyce was? Go ahead: Google for some newfound knowledge instead of braying nonsense just because a bunch of other people have before you.

avatar

Xenite

Jim Jones brainiac....

avatar

Engelsstaub

Name-calling. I'm tearing right up. Nothing of substance to add?

You know how to use Google, don't you? That's what is referred to as a typo. Making a contribution or intelligently refuting me is too much to ask from half this readership.

BTW: Fuck you.

avatar

bigrigross

Hey now, MaxPC isnt a place for using crude language. We are mostly all intelligent people and I come here for information. Your post is rude, crude, and does not belong on this site. Go to reddit if you want to speak like that. From what I have seen from all your post is that you want to start an argument. If you have nothing intelligent to say, dont speak at all please.

avatar

Engelsstaub

Have you seen the other crude posts right here or do you just see what you want to see? I can sum it up for you if you can only read crudeness from someone you don't agree with. Let me know.

Did you read that this started with me saying that it's obnoxious and should be unlawful for people to accuse justices of being on the take without providing evidence? Did you see the "intelligent" responses to that about how I must be sucking some judge's and Steve Jobs' dick? What about all the rest down there?

I'm not at all sure what you're reading.

avatar

miked6875

I understand Google is working on a patch for this.Like Admiral Yomamoto told the Jap's in WW2. DO NOT WAKE THE SLEEPING GIANT.In this case GOOGLE.

avatar

PCWonder

I've said it before. If Apple wasn't worried about these products surpassing their own in quality then they wouldn't do all this. You will never stop the Apple fanboys from buying their products but hopefully, like was mentioned above, the bad PR will drive people away.

Keep it up Apple, you are only hurting your own image. The judges that rule for them should be ashamed they are taking money from a company like this because I have no doubt they are being paid off to make these decisions.

avatar

Scatter

Meh, if you loved Apple before then I doubt that any of this will cause an Apple fan to not continue to be Apple fan. If you hated Apple then you weren't buying their products anyways.

avatar

Engelsstaub

Their should be a law against anonymous jaggoffs on the internet slandering justices with their "payoff" conspiracies unless they can provide the evidence.

"I have no doubt" that some people wouldn't say a stupid unfounded thing about a judge unless it has to do with an Apple-win in their Dork Universe where they imagine that they are Jedis and Apple is the Empire.

If Apple got the patent to "slide to unlock" or some specific search function then people can just find another way to do it. The law: plain and simple.

avatar

tekknyne

Your blind loyalty is hilarious man. Lemme guess, you are a Christian too? After you get out from under the judge's robes, u may want to wipe Steve Jobs' dribble off your lips.

There's nothing plain and simple about the law. It's deliberately convoluted so that derelicts can't figure it out.

avatar

Scatter

Blind loyalty? My last Apple product was an Apple IIc. But if you need to think of me as a fanboy to make you feel better then whatever.

avatar

SPreston2001

I think he was referring to Engelsstaub's post lol.

avatar

Engelsstaub

All these little jaggoffs on here need a target because it's not likely anyone who only uses Apple stuff would likely read this magazine. So if you don't have some blind irrational hatred for a certain company it won't matter how many PCs you own to many of these turds who leave comments.

avatar

Engelsstaub

What exactly did your lame little reference to blow jobs have to do with slandering justices without evidence?

My blind loyalty...do you need links to comments where I criticized Apple? Who fucking cares what my religion, if any, is? Would that be relevant? If you can't have an intelligent exchange with someone without reverting to juvenile insults then save yourself the time.

Are you still working on that list of tekknyne-approved computers for me? I thought you said I had no credibility because I bought an Alienware (which I also criticized.) So why are you wasting your time?

aww poor guy got burnt by another shiny and useless piece of hardware ? i feel for you and your need to purchase all the shiny brands in search of acceptance in the hardware community. maybe if you stood back and took a look at your habits, you'd finally realize that shiny = not the best. honestly, how much does apple pay you to come spew your pathetic bullshit in forums in hope of converting more of us to the holy land ? it must be alot considering how psycho babble you constantly preach and the holes you keep digging yourself deeper into

avatar

Engelsstaub

This is not a forum.

Gordon said he wanted an m11x. Is he stupid too? Do you even listen to the podcast?

Keep comment-stalking me. You don't have the grapes (or brains) to take this to a forum.

avatar

acidic

i'll admit for the very first time, you are 100% correct. i won't take this to any forums, as i have MUCH better things to do and i would also hate to hurt your feelings many more times as i have in the past. soon more people will learn the best way to deal with you is to just keep telling you off and you will eventually tuck your tail between your legs and run off and give the silent treatment like a little bitch. have fun making more enemies err, i mean friends

also, no "comment-stalking" here. i just simply look for anything apple and know you'll be there. you're kinda like me in a sense. it's like clockwork

avatar

Engelsstaub

You won't take it to a forum because your trolling and stupidity would be moderated in any forum. You're a comment-stalking coward. If you've got any stones, since this is personal for you, then hook me up with your info so we can take this to a forum or your personal email. You don't have to tell me which shack in TN you live in, Coward.

I've never seen a shiny Alienware, Coward. If you have something better to do than do it. Where's your other comments on this story? Fucking liar. I pass up all kinds of stories about Apple on here.

EDIT: I just checked the last four stories about Apple. My comments were on two of those. Comment-stalking troll.

avatar

engeldouche is a douche and always will be lol.

avatar

Engelsstaub

Oh no! More names! "I've got nothing! LOL!"

How's your first ten minutes on MPC been for you, troll?

avatar

Chronologist

I agree with Engelsstaub across his comments. You guys blindly hate Apple. I despise their patent abuse, but I admire the hardware these guys engineer. And despite that oh-so-nice exterior, there is an interior to match it.

And seriously guys, when most of you don't argue against his points. All you do is just try to diss the guy when you guys can't refute his points. L2debate.

avatar

warlok180

Knowing that this is a PC website I expect to see the hatred towards Apple. It also doesn't help the fact that the writers on this website continue to fuel the fire with constant negative press on Apple every way they can without any balance in their stories.

While I hate all the lawsuits Apple is throwing out there, I understand them. They've led the biggest innovations in the smartphone industry the last few years and they're trying to protect what they researched and developed. Samsung has clearly profited from offering alternative products to people i.e., the majority of people on this website, who would have never bought an Apple product anyway.

I prefer my personally built PC and Windows overall, but I don't have such blind hatred that I refuse to buy Apple products either. They Do build great stuff and yes they are priced higher. But, their customer service is second to none and I have had a couple of their products (iPod, iPhone, and iPad) replaced for free due to my own negligence; thus I'm willing to pay a little more for that customer service and a well-built product.

In the end, I just hope all the mobile companies stop suing each other and work it out. These lawsuits either way have got to hurt their PR. At the same time, I also believe they should all develop their own stuff without copying too and that includes both Apple and Samsung.

avatar

Chronologist

Very much agreed. Right now, I'm looking for a replacement laptop, and I am very seriously considering a Macbook Pro. You can't beat it's high quality and support that comes with an Apple product, especially when they officially have Bootcamp to let you dual boot into a Windows 7 OS.

avatar

Engelsstaub

I have a MBP and it would take an awful lot for me to go back to a PC laptop. I've had many, including some that were more expensive, and they never come close. A new desktop, on the other hand, would likely be self-built for me. I've no real problem with Windows. I just think most of the hardware and the support thereof sucks. Has for me anyway.

BTW: I appreciate that you and Warlok180 are not haters and are taking the higher road. I did not. Too often I let the same goofs on here drag me down with them. If I hadn't this time my only point was originally that it's wrong to slander judges without evidence. People are entitled to strongly dislike or hate Apple products. There's some products that I can't stand too. I'm just not calling users Kool Aid drinkers, sheep, or idiots for not disliking what I dislike.

avatar

Jerjef

The real irony is that Apple is putting all this time, effort, and money into trying to stop all these patent "infringing" devices to protect their market share, but in all actuality, all this bad PR is gonna hurt them even more.
