Just picked up a 3770k from Microcenter for 289. Guy tried to give me a 3770 sans k. Had to march him back to the glass wall. Now a motherboard...

In house pickup only so sales tax added ($307+) and the gas to get there. There is also no mention of stocking levels in the stores so first come first served. Still a good price tho.

They're pretty close to me. About a 15 minute drive. CPU wise they usually have the best prices and trade punches with Newegg and Amazon on everything else. Sales tax is a bit higher here. Pushed it up to 309.56. I can say from when I went they had about 20 or so of the 3770ks in the glass display.

sighhhhhh still soldiering on with my way overclocked i7 950.....be a while before I get a new board n chip.....however dropping a pair of 680s into it, that's a nice upgrade.....

Finally! I've been waiting for Ivy Bridge since Christmas. haha. Need to get a 17: lappy with it. They better start releasing those soon. :)

avatar

JohnP

Thanks! Just bought two i7-3770Ks, one on Amazon and one on NewEgg. Now just need one more as they both limit the purchase to one per customer. Dang, tried 12 other computer stores that I know of, no luck...

Two of my chips arrived! Hurrah! Small boxes, made in Malaysia. The Thermal Power Dissipation on the box is indeed 95W so not expecting much o/c headroom. Includes a cooling fan, same one as SB (I have way too many of these fans kicking around as always use aftermarket coolers).
EDIT 5-5 Third chip arrived. First light on my new Z77 board and IB last night at 4 AM. Turns out that AIDA shows the TDP as 77W as advertised. Intel marks the box as 95W so mobo makers cannot cheat and not give enough power for running a SB chip instead of a lower wattage IB.

John,

I happen to check this site out often for news and reviews. I also scroll through the comments to see what people think and get input. I have come to realize that I think you're full of BS. Just calling it like I see it. How about posting some pics of you're Dream Machine style PC's? Seriously.

And from someone that just bought this processor, I can't believe you saddle it with a mecahnical hard drive... As you just stated in an earlier post (last week), you see no performance advantage when navigating the OS with an SSD so you rely on your "5TB" of mechanical storage. Riiiiight.

Sorry John, but you crave the attention you get from people that comment on your posts. I fell for it, but I'll call you out as the BS artist you are and have my say. Enjoy the attention John.

Ooh, a challenge! Alrighty jgooerg, you are on! Remember, this is ONCE IN A LIFETIME UPGRADE for my two sons and I.

click on any picture to enlarge it...

Notice the 27 inch dell U2711 monitor on the desk and the two boxes for the new ones (one is already in Boston with my son). Three new coolers. One ASUS P8Z77-V deluxe mobo so I can try it out before getting the last two. The white graphite case that is in MPC's best of the best. Funny, I have a LOT of MPC's best of the best in my systems over the years. I will throw in a shot of a brace of IB chips when they come in.

EDIT 5/1 Two of the chips arrived, Yeah! 95W Thermal on the box, includes the same fan as SB, and made in Malaysia.Pics included in the above link.

A snap of my bank account showing three purchases of IB chips, two for $349.99 and one P2P transfer of $350 to my son for the third.

48Gig of memory and one of 4 Sirius CM headsets (the BEST headset).

As for a "dream machine", hardly. No water cooling, no SLI graphics, no Raid 0 SSDs. As for SSD, I stand by that. I only noticed the speed difference when booting and I hated the squeeze play of programs onto the C drive. I WILL try out the new hybrid hard drive/SSD of the mobo tho once I get one of the two I have back from my son.

Graphics cards will have to wait until the high end single chip Keplers come out. So have to suck up with two GTX 580s, one for me and my son, and the AMD 6970 that my other son has.

As Hobbes once said about Tigers, "God knows we try to be humble, but it's hard."

All set, my son is ordering the third chip. Over $1K spent on CPUs in less than 4 hours. Well, I spent close to $2K on monitors in one order.
How the hell do people feel comfortable spending $6K on a boutique PC? Cannot be many.

avatar

Carlidan

Jeez John do u build computer for work. You would think one would good enough. :(

avatar

JohnP

Heh, just bragging. This is a once in a lifetime upgrade for me and my two sons. Three i7-3770ks (got two), three Dell U2711 monitors (got all three), 3 ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe mobos (got one to try out), 48 gig of memory (got all while they were cheap), and eventually 3 Kepler 110 video cards (late summer hopefully). A new case for me, 3 EVO coolers, a new tube of Arctic 5, a lot of NZXT fans, a whole bunch of other stuff, my workshop is quickly filling up.

avatar

Carlidan

Didn't you buy i7 2600k CPU earlier?

avatar

JohnP

My God, Man! That was LAST YEAR! I cannot have all this old crap sitting around now, can I?
Actually, I have a very good home for the i7-2600K/P8P67 Evo system so I get to indulge myself. Budget is not a problem but I am still practical enough not to overbuy my computing needs...

warptek2010

That's okay, John. You can have the monthly energy bill. I like to brag on how much money I saved on a kick ass bulldozer system. Let's just say lot's. Yeah, I know... couldn't keep up with your I7 but only if we were racing our systems... which we're not. That would be just silly.

avatar

Carlidan

don't know why you're equating that you'll save a lot of money because you have a "bulldozer" system. Usually intel cpu draw less heat, therefor less electricity to draw to fans to cool them. AMD bulldozers TDP ranges from 94 watts ~ 125 watts. Intels Ivy Bridge TDP ranges TDP ranges from 45 ~ 77watts. So which one saves more? But who really cars about CPU savings. Most of the energy hogs are monitors and GPU's as they draw more watts to run. So I don't know why you're bragging bulldozer saving you cash. Because if I was John I would brag that my cpu is actually gives you more peformance with less TDP than yours.

avatar

warptek2010

Did you actually read John's post? He said he spend close to 1K on 3 cpu's alone plus an addittional 2K on monitors. That's way over 3k if you include various other parts you will need here and there. I spent less than 1K total for my Bulldozer system. He's running 3 computers at home... I'm running one computer with dual monitors (to date). You do some simple math and see who's energy bill is higher?

avatar

Carlidan

Well I was assuming you were trying to say Bulldozer was somehow more power efficient that Ivy Bridge. Sorry for assuming that. But if you read my post, I was just mentioning that Bulldozer isn't more efficient than Ivy Bridge. Yes, I know 3 computers will draw more energy than just 1 computer. And as a result, it will cost you more money electricity bill. But what if he has solar panels? And all his energy needs for his household are met. And his bill is lesser than yours. Then what? Sorry, just be an ass. :)

limitbreaker

you just like to brag, well i drive a new benz so hah.

These have been on NewEgg for awhile....

avatar

Peanut Fox

Less than a day. You make it sound like it's been a week/s or something.

avatar

TheMiddleman

The 3770k was available last Monday, as well as the comparable i5 part. I know because I had it in my hands on Wednesday, and it's now powering the computer I'm typing this reply on.

avatar

Don't know where you did your shopping, but any of the larger online stores didn't have stock until early Sunday morning. Fry's, Newegg, Amazon, Microcenter. While there is always an early release market it's hard for most of the population to get a hold of hardware before actual release. In this case it'd be this Monday.

To pretend getting an Ivy Bridge desktop CPU was as easy last week as it was today would only serve to fool yourself.

avatar

JohnP

Yeah, I have to call bullshit on this one too. I was checking Newegg, Amazon, and Google for stock, and Newegg did not even have it LISTED Saturday night at 9 PM EST when I checked.
