IT Workforce Returns to Pre-Recession Levels
If you're trained in IT and looking for a job, there's a good chance you'll find employment. Most of your peers are back in work. Citing third quarter numbers by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, InformationWeek says there are now an estimated 4.14 million people employed in U.S. IT jobs, which is around the level of employment of Q2 2008 before the recession cut that number down.
This is an encouraging sign for IT workers, and it's the second consecutive quarter IT employment has topped the 4 million mark. Back in 2008, there were three consecutive quarters with more than 4 million IT workers, right up until the fourth quarter when more than a quarter of a million IT jobs were lost. It was also in 2008 that IT employment reached 4 million workers for the first time.
Interestingly enough, IT unemployment is up a smidgen this quarter, going from 3.4 percent in Q2 to 3.6 percent currently. This is the result of a growing IT workforce, InformationWeek says.
