It Just Keeps Getting Better: Ubisoft DRM Troubles Caused by “Server Attack”

Earlier, we brought you word that Ubisoft’s much-maligned DRM servers were on the fritz. “But why?” you probably wondered before continuing to stay far, far away from them. Well, what goes around comes around, it would seem, because Ubisoft’s declared that its servers are under “attack.” PC gamers who are both tech-savvy and prone to semi-militant protest? Who’da thunk it?
“Ubisoft would like to apologize to anyone who could not play AC2 or SH5 yesterday. Servers were attacked and while the servers did not go down, service was limited from 2:30PM to 9PM Paris time. 95% of players were not affected, but a small group of players attempting to open a game session did receive denial of service errors. All players with an open session during the attack were not affected,” said the publisher.
But it gets better. You see, a scant few hours later, the servers came under fire again.
“Our servers are under attack again,” tweeted a Ubisoft rep. “Some gamers are experiencing trouble signing in. We’re working on it and will keep you posted.”
Ubisoft, as much morbid glee as we’re deriving from this twisting train wreck, we think you might want to consider slamming on the breaks before your credibility ends up on the list of casualties. We accept sincere apologies, you know. Actually, we’re surprisingly open to anything when there’s no DRM involved. Ok, not those kinds of things. Oh, wait, you mean those kinds of things and not those kinds of things? Well then, that changes everything!

It's really a shame how publishers like Ubisoft punish this bad to us buying customers. For that I'm not even willing to try to play this surely great game.I can tell for sure that none of this crappy DRMs have ever stopped pirates to cracking this garbage of a protection system. All of this is just like additional content for hackers to play with before they even, if ever, try the game itself.

Sure, the servers were 'under attack', here we go with Ubisoft blaming everyone but themselves for their servers failing!

In related news...
Percy the Software Pirate gives AC2 two thumbs up.
"It's great fun!", remarked Percy. "As a matter of fact, when I get bored and move on to the next game, I might even shut down my DDOS botnet and let everyone who bought it have a try!"
We also caught up to Ned Normal. During our interview, when we asked him for his opinions on SecureROM, DRM, and requring an online persistent connection, a glazed look and a bit of drool were our only reward. We then noticed a new copy of AC2 on his desk, and asked how he liked it.
"Oh, that? Dunno. Put the disk in, and did the installer thingy, but it won't play. Says I need to connect it to a 'swerver' or something. You know where I can get one of those so I can play the game?

I have no love for Ubisoft at the moment, as the attack go on I sit here and lol. I hope this will show other looking to go this route, say its not worth the trouble. Hopefully they get a few lawsuit that will make them double think this.

Ubisoft does put out some amazing titles but the DRMs are fricken
ridicules!!!!! If you put out a great product, make it easy to use, and
have great service and customer support with great relations, "piracy"
will be a minimal problem. Other publishers have done so without much issues.

I really hope ubisoft gets many lawsuits filed against them for this and they go out of business so the rest of the industry finally wakes up and stops this drm bs. Oh and appearently the spam filter doesn't let you link wikipedia articles (found this out in another article)

Dear MxPC... Love the site, but I'm really getting annoyed with your spam-filtering bot... It keeps saying screw you, and will not allow me to post.. I have tried numerous ways of reformating the post, but I figure its probably hates all my advertisements, or rather bashing advertisements for Ubisoft in my post... Hm...
Oh, and to the 4Chan post, which also mysteriously disapered, like my post did. I happen to agree with you, dude. 4Chan is numerous, especially /b/ for pulling such shit.

Yeah, 4Chan is a weird group. Although most of them are outright nutjobs, I think they can pull some interesting stunts, but all I can see is this causing Ubisoft to treat everyone like a terro-....potential EULA breaker.

Hehe, what understatement did you mean?
By the way, this business practice goes against everything I learned in economics class. For some reason, even though they have enraged their consumers, they still make money. Weird.

Either 4chan being weird or Ubi going into full paranoia mode and thinking everybody is out to get them.

Wait there are people NOT out to get them? Whn I heard that UBI was going srever-side for game authentication it was posting a "Please DDOS here" Sign on it and problems with the server which they said confirms it.
I can see this being 4chan related, this can be 'justified" for a cause and if I had the 'skillz' I would do the same thing as well! Don't tell me nobody saw this coming! 24hours to crack the drm 72 to Jam the servers, a week to fully unlock the game. and little more than that for more coordinated attacks! I can see this now.............Once again this is *in theory*

They definitely did this to themselves. While the perpetrators are responsible as well, it's like leaving your car in the parking lot with the keys in the ignition... and the engine running... and a sign sayign "Please don't steal my car, I'll be back for it tomorrow".

*dances on Ubisoft's grave*
Maybe they will learn from this?
