iPad Expected at Apple Retail Outlets, Best Buys on Saturday
Apple announced Monday that it will begin selling the iPad on Saturday through its retail stores, most Best Buys, select Apple Authorized Resellers and campus bookstores. For those desperate to lay their hands on an iPad for some strange reason, waiting for its retail debut is a better option than per-ordering one now. This is because new preorders won't ship until April 12.
Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley's Katy Huberty told clients Monday that Apple's Asian suppliers have revised their shipping estimates for the iPad upwards. They now expect to ship 8-10 million units in 2010 – up to twice as many as they had previously predicted, with 2.5 million iPads shipping in the first three months alone.
It's important not to confuse sales with shipments. Huberty expects Apple to sell more than 6 million units this year. However, Wall Street is not as sanguine over the iPad's sales prospects and has settled for a more conservative estimate of 3-4 million units.
