Intel's Warning to Halt Early Sales of Core i5 and Core i7 Being Ignored
Earlier this week, Intel's upcoming socket 1156-based Core i5 and Core i7 processors were spotted in retail channels in Taiwan and China, a few weeks before the chip maker's planned September launch date. That didn't sit well with Intel, who has asked vendors to stop selling the new parts, as well as accompanying P55-based motherboards.
That request is likely to go ignored, industry sources claim, who point out that demand for the new hardware is too hard to ignore. And it's not just overseas, either. The not-yet-launched products are also being sold in North America, with at least one well known review site claiming to have picked up a Core i5 processor from Fry's online store.
The parts in question include the Core i5 760, Core i7 860, and Core i7 870, plus a handful of P55-based mobos. With regards to the motherboards, some analysts predict that shipments in the fourth quarter will grow 10-20 percent sequentially, of which P55-based boards will account for 15 percent.

If they want that kind of control, how about building their products in the USA! Things like this are a common place overseas.

It's a matter of cost and warehousing space. In order to meet large demand they have to have a stockpile of parts. Companies only have so much space and budget for storing parts, its much more cost effective to ship them to retailers and let them deal with storage. Then when the release date comes you don't have to worry about the logistics of trying to ship all that product at once. This is common practice for alot of industries, and just like when a retailer decides to say.... start selling the PS3 a week before everyone else, the manufacturer is going to get pissed, but there isn't much they can do about it excpet threaten to pull their product.

Intel it's simple if you don't want something sold early don't sell it to some one else early. I hate it when they advertise something for sale and you have to wait till the release date.

I walked into a local Frys about a week ago to pick up some RAM for an i7 build I was doing and I was surprised to see a Core i5 listed for sale in the actual store where they have all the processors advertised.
I talked to them and yes, they were in stock and if I wanted to, I could have walked out with an i5 that day...except for the fact that I didn't want or need one. Needless to say, I don't blame stores like Fry's getting tired of waiting for Intel's go-ahead when sales of the older C2Q's are slowing down in anticipation of the i5's and i7's.
