Intel's CTO Believes Robots Will Leap Past Humans by 2050

Intel’s CTO, Justin Rattner, delivered a pretty phantasmagoric keynote at the IDF in San Francisco. Invariably most keynotes by tech honchos are about future technologies. But Rattner just didn’t concern himself with the imminent future – the Nehalems and Larrabees - but he allowed his imagination take unbridled flight. He pictured what the world might be like in 2050, where computers would be smarter than us frizzled, frayed Homo sapiens.

“There is speculation that we may be approaching an inflection point where the rate of technology advancements is accelerating at an exponential rate, and machines could even overtake humans in their ability to reason, in the not so distant future,” Rattner said.

Rattner even demonstrated a couple of personal robot prototypes, which employ razor-sharp sensing technologies, though only crude precursors to the “2050 machines”. The first robot – a robotic arm actually - was equipped with electric field pre-touch technology that allows it to sense objects before even touching them. And, just for your knowledge, fish are bestowed with this capability. The second robot is capable of recognizing faces and performing simple tasks as commanded.

avatarHow about that Artificial

How about that Artificial intelligence that ran Tony Stark's computer network and his suit in the movie Iron Man. That was impressive. I thought it was a little too much of a kiss ass but it kicked as. And those robots that built his suit were awsome especially the fire extinguisher robot. Those are the most realistic use of robotics I've ever seen in a movie. More believable than C3PO and R2D2.

avatarPersonally, I can't wait

Personally, I can't wait until the day that I can have a nice conversation with my computer about the latest game we're playing together.  Especially if these 'highly intelligent' computers can update/change level designs on the fly.

That'll teach Epic.

avatarWe just have to remember to

We just have to remember to make a remote control shut off so that when they try to take over the world we can just grab the garage opener remote and switch them off.

I would also like to see a robot designed after Bender.

avatarhow about fishies? Don't

how about fishies? Don't pick on peoples grammer.. Come on don't be so cheap. This is a blog. Not the print magazine where a miss spell or incorrect grammer would be highly embarrasing. If it's in the magazine then laugh and point fingers but in the blogs just shut up. You understand what is being said so leave it at that.
