Intel Worked With Google on Chrome OS
News of a Google operating system sent shockwaves through the technology industry last week, but unfortunately the announcement left us with more questions than answers. In an attempt to stem the flow of emails on the subject, VP of Product Management Sundar Pichai posted a follow up FAQ on the Official Chrome Blog. The posting doesn’t say much, but it at least confirmed that Chrome OS, just like every other Google product, will be absolutely free. Pichai also detailed the industry partners working with Google, and it’s an impressive lineup, even though Intel was noticeably absent.
Intel’s only comment on the issue at the time was to defend its own operating system initiative, code named Moblin, and to insist that it wouldn’t compete directly with Chrome. What they neglected to mention at the time oddly enough, is that they have actually been working closely with Google on Chromes development, and are extremely pleased with its progress. According to an Intel spokesmen, "We have been privy to the project for some time and we have worked with Google on a variety of projects, including this one. We welcome Google's move here."
Do you think this will cool Intel’s warm relations with Apple and Microsoft?

Intel has relationships with many different industry leaders and the up and coming leaders. Intel has to have relationships with both software and hardware companies to ensure Intel's processors and chipsets are sold. Intel works with dell, hp, asus, cisco, xerox, tyan, MSI, and so on. Intel working with google to develop a new os may solicit frowns from MS or Apple, but Intel will most certainly always be intertwined with MS and Apple, Linux, Unix and so on.
I doubt there is any rifts developing with Apple and Microsoft.
Google's OS will be light weight and drab like their browser, it will simply be an os to get you to the web to access all things google.

Exactly!! You turn it on, you see google. Turn it off, you see google. hop on the net, google again. I'm sorry, I will not support an AD based enterprise as I don't want AD's streaming across my screen just because I turn it on. Google did announce that they are planning a ticker tape stream of ad's on it's android based cell phones. These MID's will be no different. After all, they need to make money and that's how they will do it.
In the short run, it's gonna piss of M$ and Crapple, but the hype will die off and it will be all good again.

Need I remind everyone that Intel has access to much if not all of the code behind Windows? As part of the shared source initiative, in reaction to the open source FUD. In fact, Intel made some contributions to the kernel we all enjoy.
Now they are working with Google? What if some of Chrome OS's code happens to be, uh, "inspired", by some of Microsoft's work?
You can have your recession. I'm not participating.

Typically they'll firewall different areas of the business that have competing NDAs. So, the Intel team that works with MS will be at one location and report up through an entirely different arm of the organization than the one that's working on ChromeOS or the team that works with Apple.
Depending on the license of ChromeOS, the team working on ChromeOS could even be the same as the team working on Linux.

This is where it boils down to. Everything is inspired by something. Caclulators inspired by the fact that math is slower when worked out on your own. DOS was better than Punch Cards because it didn't require a specific order, instead DOS called specific things. A GUI was DOS but more graphical for the "average" person to use. OSX ripped off some major linux stuff. IE ripped off Netscape, Windows took some Apple ideas, Apple took some windows ideas, both took some ideas from Linux and vice versa. Patents work, but they're so specific that small features can be used without infringingon said patent.
I don't like Microsoft, I associate with it.

One would think Intel would want a slower OS considering they sell processors and all...

"Do you think this will cool Intel’s warm relations with Apple and Microsoft?"
apple certainly not, apple would not have much appeal right now if they didn't have those intel processors (since that allows apple to run windows and are better than the IBM and motorola processors)
as far as microsoft, hard to say, but i dont think it would change much... at least i dont think it would. with intel pissing off nvidia... it would add to the list of intel haters
