I can't wait to see what the prices will be. I'm excited too as this gives us X58 owners a nice upgrade path down the line. But right now, I can only fully utilize my i7 920 when Folding for MaximumPC's Folding team looking for cures to diseases. No other program I use comes any where near taxing this new CPU.

Agreed!  And it will be a showdown with AMD and Intel on the 6-core procs and prices.  Especially since it's a safe bet AMD learned a lesson with the original Phenom chips, it's unlikely to make the same smackdown mistakes it had before.  As long as there are good prices, there will be upgrades.

Oh yes.  Delicious, precious upgrades.

Nice plug quakindude.  But I agree, unless I am doing something like converting video the only time I use all of my Q9300 is while folding.

And sadly, people would still buy it.

"And sadly, people would still buy it. "

What's so sad about it?  If it wasn't so expensive I would buy it. When I'm doing rendering in Cinema 4D, my i7 920 does a pretty good job, but on some renders it still can be slow.

I like this since I'm not building 'till June or so so that i can see what's developing for some of the things I am looking at. Maybe even for the prices of 5870's or even 5970's to go down enough for me to see it as a feasible purchase.
