Intel Posts Record Numbers for Sixth Consecutive Quarter
It's not as if Maximum PC readers need any more convincing that the whole 'post PC era' theory is a bunch of hogwash, but just in case there remains any lingering doubt, Intel just reported yet another record quarter, for the sixth time in a row, as a matter of fact. Intel set new records for microprocessor units shipped, EPS, earnings, and revenue, which the chip maker reports was up 28 percent year-over-year.
"Intel delivered record-setting results again in Q3, surpassing $14 billion in revenue for the first time, driven largely by double-digit unit growth in notebook PCs," said Paul Otellini, Intel president and CEO. "We also saw continued strength in the data center fueled by the ongoing growth of mobile and cloud computing."
Intel's numbers beat out Wall Street expectations, and did so despite a sharp decline in Atom processor sales. Amid growing competition from Apple's iPad and other ARM-based devices -- the very devices that fuel the post PC era talk -- Atom processor and chipset revenue fell 32 percent year-over-year to $269 million. Strong gains in Intel's PC Client Group (up 22 percent), Data Center Group (up 15 percent), and other Intel architecture group revenue (up 68 percent) more than made up for the decline in Atom sales.

Intel is a class act as a company. They put tons of money into R&D, try new and unproven processes, products, and manufacturing techniques, and generally acts like a company that is in touch with their customers. This shows in their sales figures.
