What I don't understand is why the price of these processors doesn't drop. I'd really like to upgrade to a sixe core processor, but not for $500 dollars.

Yeah, I know. I have i7 950 in one of my rigs and it's great but I would like to upgrade it to a 6 core but not at those prices.

This whole bit completely ignores the existance of LGA2011 and the i7-39xx line. Was it written that long ago and just now posted?

" the enthusiast oriented Core i7 990X, a six-core processor currently without equal in the consumer desktop market."

The 3960x and 3930k don't count?

No, because their performance isn't exactly EQUAL to the 990X. Whether or not they are higher-performing than the 990X, the original statement was 'without equal'.

That's weak, and you know it.  No CPU is ever exactly equal in performance to an older model, that would be pointless.
