Intel Drops CPU Market Share, AMD Catches Up

Just as motherboard sales have fallen because of the recession, so too has CPU sales, and it's finally caught up with Intel. According to new data from iSuppli, Intel's four-quarter growth streak has come to an end with the No. 1 chip maker seeing a decline in both sales and market share, much to the delight of AMD.
"After losing share to Intel on a sequential basis during three out of four quarters in 2008, AMD managed to reverse the trend in the first quarter of 2009," said Matthew Wilkins from iSuppli. "AMD increased its allocation of global microprocessor revenue due to strong performances in each area of its microprocessor portfolio, particularly in its notebook products."
Intel's market share fell by two and a half points for Q4 2008 while its shares of the global processor revenue inched backwards from 81.6 percent to 79.1 percent. Nearly all of it went to AMD, whose market share grew by 2.3 points.

Intel needs to drop their prices. it's just too expensive in a time like this, especially the i7.
I hope they read this.
This is considered catching up?

"Intel saw its market share dropped by 2.5 points ..... to 79.1% from 81.6%. AMD grew its market share by 2.3 points to 12.8%."
AMD is as much of a threat to INTEL as Linux is to Microsoft.
Your point is?.... All that

Your point is?.... All that matters is that Intel dropped and AMD gained. Nuff said!

Just like Linux, AMD has had since 1991 to "catch up" and a short term 2.3 increase is meaningless at this point.

I didn't resort to name calling. Just goes to show how immature you are.
What this means

If you think about it in consumerist terms, people aren't buying Intel products as much as they used to. Instead during this recession, more people are likely to buy AMD budget chips which will raise AMD's share.
2.3 measly points isn't something to get excited about, but when and if you see AMD producing more chips that has a better "bang-for-the-buck" than Intel, then it'll be a threat. Until then AMD has still got quite a ways to "catch up", but for a company that only controls a 5th of the market, they are competing very well with Intel.
...that only controls a 5th

...that only controls a 5th of the market...
Now here the statment is a bit inacurate. They have 1/5 market SHARE but CONTROL id say more like 40% of the actual market producing CPUS
Intel no doubti has like a 50-56% control while Nano, Ion, etc making up a control of like 4-10%

I'm proud to say that I'm part of that 40% marketshare as 99% of PC's in my apartment run AMD CPU's and have ATI graphics!

i dont recomend Core i7 and i dont recomend C2D anymore
ive gone back to AMD
and also i agree with PCIV
If someone comes in looking for a laptop for school + a lil sims 3 i recomend AMD with ATI grafix
it just does a better job!

Well, for notebooks, I blame the Intel graphics card. I, being a geek (I'm here, aren't I?), tell people to get AMD for laptops just because it can't come with Intel's graphics. Apprantely, others are doing the same.
I think it has more o do
